Fast Flashing SES - ?

Someone must know what a fast flashing SES light means.
I got it when I first put my new chip in and I can't make it go away. Even after swapping the stock chip back in.

Only code it's throwing is 51

Turn the eprom around and reinstall. You've probably got it backwards because a code 51 is like having no eprom at all.

Nope, if I turn it around it's backwards.
When I tried that the car ran like a turd and the light stayed on solid (with a 51 error code)

This all started when I installed the new chip, and continues
even when I put the stock one back in. I've also tried clearing the codes, but it just keeps comming back.

The car runs fine (actually, my cold start problem even went away) but the flashing light is getting on my nerves
since I can't tell if anything else is going wrong.

A rapidly flashing SES is due to a checksum error. The code 51 is from the same. Bad PROM, bent pin, crumpled socket, any number of things can cause this. Basically the EPROM data as seen by the ECM is incorrect.

It can happen if you have your ALDL shorted across A-B while running too I suppose...

Hello, I am having the check engine light flash rapidly non stop when I try a self burned chip as well. The car does seem to run fine with the chip/adapter in. When I put my old chip back in the light stops flashing.

What I'm using and what I've done.

746 ecm
2732A chip (originally)

PP2
Craig Moates G2 adapter (2732A to 29C256)
29C256 chips(new from craig moates)
GMECM Edit 2.05
8746jonprevost.ecu from the ftp dyi efi site

opened the pp2 software, selected 2732a
Copied my chip to a bin file (chip.bin) (4kb).

loaded the 8746jonprevost.ecu, and my chip.bin file in GMECM edit
set EGR Speed on to 255.0 (I don't have smog test and want to take that off)

saved it.
ran the bin stacker tool in GMECM edit, Set my bin to 4kb, chip to 256 k, and switch block size to 32k

in slot 0 browsed to the recently saved chip.bin file.

In Output file browsed to same location as chip.bin but named it stackedchip.bin and said open or whatever in that window.

Clicked Append.

closed GMECM edit and opend pp2 software,

selected 29c256
put the new 29c256 chip in

clicked verify device or blank check.. it said the device can be burned

clicked load buffer, and opened the stackedchip.bin file (which is now 256k in size)

clicked program, did NOT move the mouse
it said verified to device (or something like that)

Put the chip in craig moates G2 adapter,l disconnected batter on car, put adapter in, reconnected battery, turned key...
non stop flashin Check Enging light?

there were no directions at all with the adapter, I guessed at which way the chip went in the adapter based on the little half moon on the adpter and matched that with the half moon on the chip. It would seem the adapter only would fit in the ECM one way since the other way the swithcher hits the side of the ecm and won't go down all the way.

Help would be very much apreciated.

Craig... dude you rock!
works now everything I did above works except I had the bin size, chipe size and switch block size wrong.
didn't know what actual size the chip was, I guessed it was 256k since its well... a 29C256 chip.....so I figured I need to increase my bin size to 32k, and that would make 8 switched on the 256k chip but its a 32k chip

bin size to 4kb, chip to 32 k, and switch block size to 4k

burned.. works great now

Yes ... what *was* the problem? I want to make sure it wasn't GMECM Edit that was causing it. =)

He just had the settings wrong. Something in a pulldown menu for auto-settings might be helpful, ie. "8 programs on 29C256 chip" or something like that.

Click "Load Layout" and you'll find that there are a couple default layouts. =)
