Vss?
After I installed my TH-350 trans behind a 383 TPI (730 ECM) I have been getting code 24 whenever I drive with some spirit. I DO NOT have a VSS hooked up because the factory sensor does not fit in the hole for the speedo cable on the TH-350. I would like the check engine light to stop coming on all the time and I would also like the speedo to work!!
Sometime I get the code 24 and 43. I have never gotten code 43 by itself, always with the 24. I have gotten 24 alone. When I get 24 and 43 together, the car will barely idle and have very poor acceleration. I think this is " limp home mode" b/c if I turn off and then restart it goes away.
My Chilton manual tell me 24 is the VSS code and 43 is the ESC code. I confirmed this with the Mitchell software we have at work.
Does anyone know what I can do? Is there a different tail housing I could use to make a VSS fit? I have posted a similar message on the transmission board but I thought maybe here would yield some different perspectives on the matter.
Thanks in advance.

look at http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Spe...eedometer.html
see item #5.
you will need a 4 pulse VSS inline with the speedo cable to generate the correct pulses to the ecm. Everything you need should be available on this site. Just need to splice the generator into the purple/yellow VSS wires. cheers, Bob

I have one more question about this sensor. I did look on that link you sent and I wonder if I need to modify my transmission. I have the TH-350 trans. I also have the factory electronic speedometer. Does the 4-pulse sensor they sell simply fit into the hole on my trans? Does it need a reluctor ring or magnet to get a reading of speed? Sorry for all the questions, I just like to get as much info as possible before I start buying parts and doing the work.
Thanks again for your help.

I just found the original speedo sender from the TH-350 and compared it to the speed sensor from my T-5 and I think that the VSS will fit right into the TH-350. If only I had done this before I went and installed the transmission.
I will try to see if it fits later today.
Thanks for the replies and for the help in locating an adapter, I may still require one!
Finally, keeping every thing that I have ever taken off of a car has paid off. Does anyone else have millions of bags and boxes filled with old nasty bolts and odd parts?!!

Well...I tried.
The VSS from my T-5 does fit, and very well into the TH-350 but the retaining bracket is to long. I quickly made a new bracket only to find that because of the large shape of the factory speed sensor, I could not get a bolt or even a much smaller head screw into the bolt hole.
I guess I will need one of those adapters anyway.

What adapter are you running in the TH-400? WHere do you get it? I have e-mailed Jags that RUn, but they have not gotten back to me yet.
Thanks in advance.

What's up.
I used the Jags that Run VSS and I just cut off my original harness and used an ohmmeter to determine that it doesn't matter which wires go where, but you should double check that cause it has been a while since I had to do this. Anyway, I used a weatherproof connector and just soldered the connections and away she went...If you are using a Spohn crossmember and torque arm, it is not that easy to do laying on your back in the driveway!! Hope this helps...

Good, that will help you.
No I don't remember, but I would remember if it mattered...The way I usually go about things like this is to just try it one way and if it doesn't work, try another. Since there are only two options it is not a bad way to decide which wires go where, just hook it up, it'll work...Did your VSS come with a spec sheet or directions?
My car is a 92 Z-28, in case you didn't figure it out from my screen name
It has a 383 with TH350. The trans is out of my old 71 Monte Carlo...
