But I never saw what you have.. sure is a lot cheaper than what I did.. however it works great.

This is a RS232 to TTL converter, Is this what you need?

I don't think you understand what that piece is?? It is a ALDl interface cable adapter to allow your cars ECM to be connected to your PC to check the data. It is not a PCMCIA for a laptop.

So in other words the pic at the top of this thread will only work if you have a rs-232 port on your laptop already, right?

The adapter at the top is for electronic projects that require interfacing a Microprocessor to a RS232 port. This board is designed for easy prototype of designs that might require RS232. If you plug it in to your laptop RS232 port and supply the 5V and GND then you it will translate RS232 to TTL(5V Levels).

So basically unless you are building a microcontroller project, it won't do you any good.
