which ECU file to use
which ECU file to use
I am new to prom burning but i have been researching it for a while now. So far I have put a 3 ring binder together that is over 1.5" thick with info from many different web sites. I have a PP2 and a use criag's software to scan my system. I have download GMECM 2.11 and some of the other files from that site. When am in GMECM and load up a bin and a ecu file for what I think is the right combo, I find a lot of weird things. One is the fan on temps seem to be -35. It seems like a lot on the constants are not right. The tables and flags seem to be OK. If I change the ECU file and keep the same bin, then I get different numbers for the constants and the tables and flags are still almost the same. I am looking for a clean base to start from and i'm not sure which file if any are right.

There are several eligible masks that were used for the 3rd gens.
I'd suggest you research and work with the 6E Mask. A search here will show what things need to be changed, to allow running the ARAP .bin file.
The 165, ARAP is a good starting place. While it's a high timing calibration, at least it's a known.
$6E APYP.bin is this the bin for the 5 speed cars? Would it be better to tune with this bin then the ARAP.bin file?
Before I reallized that I could do my own chips I bought a hypertec chip for my car. The car runs good with it in there so I would like to be able to read this chip then apply some of the data to the APYP.bin. Anyone have any idea what ecu file to use to read the hypertec chip. My car is a 1987 model and I bought the chip for that year.

for my '165 running 6E (5 speed), I started with the APYP and 6Ev010.ecu (that I included with GMECM Edit) and tweaked from there.
Not sure which mask you're running, but yes, it is absolutely critical that you get the ECU file that matches your bin mask (and its best if you use a more "proven" ECU file).

What's the difference between 6Ev009.ecu and 6Ev010.ecu? I'm using 9 and have 10. Should I be using 10?
Should also add I'm using ARAP $6E

10 includes fixes (formatting mostly) and additions (shift light constants/tables) that I added.
use whichever version you with to work with.
