has anyone noticed this?

I was looking through my stock bin (88 tbi) and I noticed that there is no speed limiter (set to 255) and the highway mode is activated in the stock bin. I thought maybe someone had edited it before me but others that i came across had this as well. I wish i had known about the lack of the speed limiter, i would have driven faster. Seems that it was a bit unusual to have these settings from the factory since the other bins for other ecms seem to have the speed limiter set and no highway mode (to my knowledge).

my 90 had a speed limiter, but did have hi-way mode activated. did you read the actualy stock bin? or download one from somewhere, the way i understand it, all the cars that didn't get the 'performance tire' option were speed limited for liability because of the rated speed on the tires.

Codes vary.
that's why when folks try to make sweeping statments, they're often wrong.

im not trying to make a sweeping statement. But it did stike me as unusual that there was no speed limiter with the car since its a low-po engine that seems to have come with the run of the mill options. Could eb wrong, though. The bin was right off my stock unmolested factory prom.

Interesting, didn't know 88 had the speed limiter disabled. Learned something new today. Could you do me a favor and double check that's correct by setting the fuel cut off to something like 4mph and resume at 10mph, the back out of driveway and make sure car stalls out completely. That'll tell you for sure if stock it came with the limiter at 255.

i floored it until it suddenly stopped pulling. it cuts out at about 114... just like it should.

If I did that with the stock ANLU eprom I would have to have enough power to get up to 255mph.... kind of a dumb way to check the speed limiter don't you think.

What if your limiter has been patched to look at rpm instead of vss? Works nicely to keep your out of "darn another valve dropped" and I tend to stay away from this limit if possible. 6000rpm works very well.

yea, i read about that mod... pretty sweet idea..

use the same programming but have it look at the RPM variable instead of the VSS.... then it cuts the fuel out at a specifc RPM instead of MPH...

athough i think id set mine to 6700 or so....... but im building a big solid roller motor.... hehehehe.
