I'm also running win 95 on an old PII laptop. ECM852 runs fine, but for data logging I boot to dos only. In windows it logs a little slower.

Keep trying

you have enough memory.

more likely is that you have the application and/or files its trying to access buried too deep in the directory path.

try relocating them closer to the root.

i.e. c:\ECM852\ecm852.exe

is better than

c:\program files\in here\just a couple more\its here i swear\keep clicking\ecm852\ecm852.exe

i have it on the desk top.. but will give it a try.

ok tried it.. gives me this path file access error in module ecm852... do need the 850 first and then the 852 as an overlay?

Try the old C. Moates stuff : 6b004. It's previous to 8.52 version and it has less calculations.

Yes, I remember when I used the link to C. Moates software into TRAXION's tech article, I downloaded that zip.file and it worked good.

being a dos based program, and having it located on your desktop might be the issue. i am not sure, and haven't tested this, but it is quite possible that it cannot handle the win95+ style of directory names, being on your desktop it is actualy going to be located in c:\my documents\desktop or something like that (been a while since i looked at the win95 orginaztion. you might try installing his program in something with a less than 8 characters and no spaces. on my laptop i have it installed to c:\moates then boot up into DOS mode, and you should be good to go.

thats exactly what i did. I put the ecm file right in c drive and thats where im getting the path/file error. I tried putting just the program in C, and that still gives me a problem. Oh, and I access the program from dos, not from win95.

for me to get it to properly work, i had to have ALL the files in the same directry. even when i that directory to the system path, if i tried to execute ecm852, it gave me errors. i wrote a batch file to solve this. if you unzip all the files into a directory (say c:\ecm) and then you go into the directory, and try to execute the program from there, do you still get errors?

huh?
this is what i do, maybe this is near what your saying

I get to the c prompt and type
c:/cd ecm852
then it comes up with this
c:/ecm852/ then i type after that dir and get the directory if thats what your telling me to do.
then i type in the exe file which is ecm852 and then this blue screen comes up and says motes software bla bla and ECM in big letters with hit button to continue, but after that it says
Path/File error...etc etc...

sure.. let me get her started up...

lt1form dat
730form dat
ecm852 exe
kleur tab
defualt dat
165form dat
default plt

I also changed the file from ecm852 to motes... and i get the same litte error

Path/File access error in module ecm852 So it has to be with the actual program itself... Only problem i can see it being is that i had someone burn the unzipped info onto a cd and i just copied the info intoa file.

you might try downloading the software again straight onto the laptop. or another computer, and then copy the zipped file to you laptop (it will fit easily on a floppy)

i would delete the directory you have now, and unzip it to a new directory of the same name.

Hi,
Check the properties of the files. They should be set to “archive” and not to “read-only”
That happens when you copy the files from a CD-Rom.

fixed it this weekend. thanks Dewey. I had to unzip it from a floppy, but... ahh.. well the floppy i had it on wasnt formated(which i find very weird) so my laptop couldnt read it... so i found the CD that came with my ALDL cable, and copied it to the desk top and then unzipped it into the c drive. I tried it, and its pretty awesome. I like the software, just wish it had a code scanner on there so i could get codes. I think that i also found the problem with my winaldl software.

Ok, know on moates, I put the com port as 1, but the port really is com port 3. When i set the settings on com 3... it didnt get any info... but i put it on com 1, it gets in. I think thats wrong with my winaldl. I have it setting on com 3. I think im gunna have to switch that. thanks again guys.
