ok, now im confused........ im being told that with the exception of the injector driver, the 730 and 749 is the exact same ECM..
i want to run $58 for my car since im going to be putting a supercharger on it.... can i just put the chip i was making for the 749 in the 730 and not repin my car (only a few pins but still)??
any downsides? its like people mention it, but noone goes into detail about using the 730 like a 749.....

They are not the same. They have the same PCB board but are stuffed differently. So it all depends upon what you want to do with the ECM.Originally posted by MrDude_1

If you have a '730 and want to run the $58 code in it you still need to re-pin the harness. The $58 code uses different output pins then the $8D code (TPI '730 code). This part is good for you.
The '749 is short a quad driver, so you will lose the TCC lockup function if running $8D code in it. IIRC there is another driver in one or the other but can't remember which. It is a single output driver.

Well you have to repin because they are mostly (90%) the same. They are not the same. They have the same PCB board but are stuffed differently. So it all depends upon what you want to do with the ECM.

But as long as you can run the same code base, and swap ECM's in and out that most of the drivers are the same. This seems to be true for $58 code.

Ahh. He asked this question in another thread, but said it wrong. He said there was no TCC in '730 if you run $58 - which is incorrect. F6 on '749 is a dead pin ?
I'm running a manual, so I wouldn't have noticed.

You can run $58 in the '730 for your application, of a TPI setup. You won't be able to run low imp injectors, but you won't need to on your car anyway.ok, now im confused........ im being told that with the exception of the injector driver, the 730 and 749 is the exact same ECM..

just to clearify...
you have to repin your 730 is if its a 749 like in this post..
https://www.thirdgen.org/1990conversion
and then load .xdf file,.ads and .bin files for the 749 onto your 730 chip?

I used to think so. If you don't repin it should work fine.Originally Posted by ???

well just to follow up...
i didn't change any pins, just dumped a starter bin from the code59 site, changed it to 8cyl and it fired right up and idled.
its rich but worked, i am going to add the WB wires and the shift light one but still. works well.
