piggyback ecm for 730 /2bar map?

OK, 730 swap no problem-it still has all the code to keep me smog legal (Calif!) I've seen aftermarket piggybacked for 2bar map capibility, but I'd rather use a sy ty or other.
Has anyone tried it already? Suggestions? I'm only running 6lb boost, but it'd be nice to run it without an fmu. Thanks!

The Sy ecm is the 749, and just a few pins different from your 730.
There's a number of guys running them, and the archives is full of information. It uses the 58 Mask.

I should clarify-I'd like to con't with the 730; then piggyback a sy (or other) ecm just for spark and ve tables under boost.

what hes saying is to continue to use ONLY the 730 ecm.

you just put the 58 program on the chip, move a couple pins (like 7ish, not alot) and then you're set.

the program called 58 can handle boost, boost timing, wastegate actuation, anything you want.... and its still the stock ECM, stock wiring, ect... no FMU needed. no aftermarket anything needed... to anyone inspecting it, it looks totally stock.

I think he's saying that he want's to keep what he has, and add a second ECM (piggyback) to take care of things only when running boost.

The only reason I can come up with for not just running the $58 code is emissions control devices. Don't you have to lose the CCP function in $58? How about EGR?

Other than that, there is no reason to not just run $58 (in a 730, or a 749) If I ever get my car running EFI, I plan to run a N/A 1-bar $58 code (Actually, Bruces $60 which should do even better) in a 730 ECM. Just from what I've heard that Grumpy is working on, it should be "The Stuff"!!!

You lose air injection too with $58.. The trucks didnt have it apparently.

What your asking for really can't be done.

I did a lot of work with $8d under boost. I wasn't really happy with the end results, but I'd be glad to share my data with you if you wanna give it a whirl. I found the transision from n/a to boost was too inconsistant. BUt then again, I'm runnning twice as much boost as you.

In rereading this, your out of luck.
The CARB approval for the kit was for, as the kit was designed. That means using the FMU.

If the inspector knows what he's doing, you'll fail on the visual.

Smog Legal doesn't mean being sneeky in breaking the law. Your either legal or not. If you want to talk to a state inspector you might get somewhere but I doubt it. The EPA type folks are now selling the certificate process to manufacturers so that they don't have to be bothered with doing anything other then fining them when they're not in compliance.

Using the 58 code for off highway use, and then with the certified setup on the street, would be the best legal answer.

I'd greatly appreciate that! joheads@aol.com Thanks.
And yes, the original idea I had was to keep the smog functions of 8D and then piggyback another ecm for boost....

Ok. I'll send you over a few bins, and some notes so you get an idea of what I was "trying" to do.

I made a patched $8D bin for a second map sensor, but I have not gotten around to writing the bpw adder for it.. When I get an ECM bench i'll finish this project.. Then folks can stay $8d if they want under boost.
