Bad Pocket Programmer

Hey everyone

I have a pocket programmer

It functions correctly for the most part but it will not write.

I think I screwed up and programmed a chip with the wrong voltage.

Anyways I think I fried this chip

14 pin chip # 3906 933

Does anyone here have any experience with this? Or does anyone know what kind of readings I should be getting from this chip to determine if it is in fact bad?

Or better yet.....has anyone else had this problem and know what to look for in trying to fix it? Don't reall have the money for a new one or to get fixed but I do know how to solder

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you had the programming voltage too high, then you probably nuked the chip.

Try programming it with all FFs, and then hit verify. That will tell you if the chip is somewhat OK. Then try programming it with 00s. If you can do both, then *generally* it means the chip is still good.

I think there was a thread here, about a transistor that sometimes fails, in the PP.

The chip does have all ff's as I erased it in a datarase II

It verifies fine. I did program this chip before. I am fairly certain it is the programmer.

I have a few chips that I test with and they all will not program. Although they did before.

do you know about this thread with the transistor?

Have you contacted Transtronics? They're really quite helpful in these situations.

think i figured it out.

I found that other thread about the transistors.

I am gonna check them out and replace if necessary and then test with a flash chip instead of a 2732a.

less room for error there.......

I think one of them might be bad.
