a laptop helps cuz then you can datalog your car as your driving, or you can get a power inverter and lug around a whole pc in your car.

Pretty much what he said.

Also depends on what u use for datalogging.

Most of the DIY type programs are great for having a laptop in the car. For the program requirements for datalogging on our cars requires, pretty much any laptop made in the last 5-8 years should work more than adequate.

It all depends on your setup.

I still recommend starting out with a regular chip burning setup, especially if your new. Making one change at a time helps u properly learn and understand what and why you are changing something.

U can add more toys and bells and whistles as you learn more.

later

Now that's an idea,
sure beats trying to use all these extension cords.

www.craigslist.org and click on the nearest city

Since you're looking for a used laptop you'll probably want to get a cigarette lighter invertor as well because the battery is probably toast.

i had an old Sharp that i tried replacing the battery. battery plus unit did not fit nor hold charge so they refunded. RS invertor was not cheap either. ended up getting a new laptop.
