But, does anyone have a HAC for the $6E calibration? The $32 is useless if everyone with $32 and $32B should convert to $6E.

Grumpy, thanks for posting that site. I agree with colt, I am really confused, but i think if I keep on re-reading it, it will help. I guess the only thing to do is just buy the
equipment and go for it. I hope you guys will tolerate dumb questions from a complete
beginner if I try to do this myself. thanks.....bob

The HACs can be confusing for a newbie. Heck, I am STILL trying to find a good site that explains all of the assembly instructions shown in the HAC. If anyone has a good site please let me know. Dave Zug referred me to http://www.mot-sps.com but I still can't seem to find the instruction set description.

The HACs will give you a complete breakdown of where everything is located in the PROM via listings by PROM address. This is invaluable if you are using a program such as TunerEdit to modify TDFs to add your own parameters that are not included in the TDFs supplied by TunerCat. These are also very helpful for tracking down other stuff. I used this information to track down an automatic TCC lockup for the 730 (address 31D) that Greg Westphal identified through some work with Jeff Fox (which Dave Zug and Mike Davis confirmed).

Again - anyone have a good reference for the Motorola 68HC11? The 68HC11 is what is used on our cars right? At least that is whay I got from the DIY archives.

Traxion,

The $6E hack/code is very similar to the $32(B) code. I was able to use the $32 hack as a reference and find a lot of the tables and parameters in the $6E code.

Traxion,

Quick off topic question. On your website you say

"By the time the car was paid off I finished a full head/cam swap that catapulted me to 13.08 @ 107.2"

What intake setup were you using at that time?? Just currious as to how you reached the 107mph.

thanks

Colt,

Actually, I have to change that. I ran 13.08@107.6mph with AS&M Semi-Siamesed Large Tube Runners, TPIS Big Mouth baseplate, ported plenum and 52mm TB. Then I installed a PI Vigilante 2800 stall and ran 12.58@107.9mph

Finally, I swapped my 22lb injectors for 30lb injectors, installed the TPIS MiniRam, put on front skinnies and ran 12.2@112mph.

Wait a minute. You're telling me you dropped a half second on a torque converter alone??? What converter where you running before, the stock one?? How much did that converter run you, about $700?

Yes, 1/2 second

The biggest loss of torque that I have ever experienced is when I did heads/cam. I lost significant torque with my head/cam swap. The best I could manage was 13.08@107.x mph. The car just couldn't get into its powerband quick enough. It bogged off the line bad. I had heard that a torque converter swap was necessary. At the time - I really didn't understand why this was true. But, I swapped converters anyhow. WOW. What a difference. The car now had rediculous torque and immediately rewarded me with 1.71 60ft times BTW - at this point I still had the long runner system installed.

I only recommend quality torque converters from manufacturers like Precision Industries or Yank. They can give you high stall with great driveability.

See more on torque converters in my post in the aftermarket section about the TPIS MiniRam

Traxion,

The .pdf manual for the 68HC11 fmaily can be found at: http://ebus.motorola.com/brdata/PDFD.../M68HC11RM.pdf

The only problem is that the file is over 4MB and the site was a little hard to connect to. I was able to download a copy after a few attempts...

I know there was a note saying that the various GM controllers were only based on the motorolla 68x11 family with various mods to the registers and instruction sets but hopefully they're minor mods.

Hope this helps,
(another) Tim

Arrrgggghhhhhh
BUT once you get familiar with it you'll at least know what guestions to ask
unless you know all the switches setting tables already.
stare at the chit long enough and it does get clearer. Onna good day I can find a timing and VE tables (sometimes EGR and CCP) in 20-30 mins just by knowing where and what to look for. Not that I'd rish an engine on the first take doing this but close enough to fire up the ecm bench to verify them.
1/2 of learning is figurin out the guestions, to Ask!

I follow you completely. Just trying to see if a $6E hac actually exists. Sometimes ... sometimes ... its easier to get the destructions for inventing the wheel rather than reinventing the wheel. Only so much time exists....

The lil guys are running around on their camping trip and building tents while using instructions for teepees. They have info that tells them that the tents are better than the teepees, but they only have the instructions for building teepees

Go to the Motorola sight, and ask for the Pnk Book. It's free
splains all kinds stuff

#2 the is alot of 6E stuff in dribs and drabs around, like I says, ask guestions...

#3 Ya gotta just read and then get you feet wet. If you document everything as you go, and start with a solid baseline it's easy.
Just test as you go.
The baseline is what seems to being forgotten lately
