I want to burn my own eprom, but I only have USB ports.

As far as I can gather, the pocket programer and the scan tool software require the use of a parallel port. Is there any way around this. You guys know of an adapter that will allow a parallel port cable to plug in one side and the other to plug into a USB port. I would be very dissapointed if the only reason I cannot start to burn my own is because my lap top does not have a parallel port. Any help would be apprecieated.

CompUSA, OfficeMax, and Best Buy are a few that come to mind.. I would almost bet Best Buy has an adapter like that...

-Problems every other day with the car (probably not a mod, but to me it sure makes a difference)

Are you sure your laptop doesn't have a parallel port? Not even the new high density
type? I have yet to see a laptop (unless it's a Crapintosh ) that does not have one...

Thanks for the tip BRANZ28, I went to Compusa and found one made by canon for ten dollars. What a deal! And yes LeeH I'm positive I have no parallel port. What I do have is a ethernet port, video out, VGA port and two usb ports. The lap top I have is a compaq unit. I talked to a few other people and they said the parallel ports are slowly going to be phased out of new equipment and USB will replace them. Lot of good that does me, the things I want to to requires parallel ports. Good thing the adapters are cheap. Although I did see some for around sixty bucks also. Ouch! Hopefully this one I bought will work for my application. Thanks for the replies guys.

Don't forget that some of these are hit and miss to work as a scanner tool. I have heard that the Belkin adapter has the highest % of working rates than all other brands.

I am in the same boat as you are, my Vaio does not have a serial port on it either.

Watch it man, my PowerBook can probably run circles around your laptop.....

As for the USB to Serial Adapter, you will need to do a search, because there is a thread about which one to buy......but you might as well try the one you bought.

Just to clear a couple things up in this post incase someone else comes and is looking for info.

The begining of this post was for an adapter because the laptop didn't have a serial port. A serial or com port, are the 9 pin plugs. What is listed earlier was parrallel port, this is the 25 printer port. I think all computers have the printer port, but very few these days have the serial port.

After searching around, more people are getting the belkins to work, which is what I stated earlier. Now the belkins are a little more expensive, but at least they have good quality.
