7730 w/2 bar map

Morning all,

I seem to recal someone putting a blower onto thier L98 w/the 7730 ECM. to make it work they used the Sy/Ty code. I am sure that this has been done more than once but the one that sticks out in my mind is someone with a Malibu & a single turbo.

does anyone have more information on this? what would i search for in the archives, "2 bar map", "sy/ty code" any thoughts?

thanks
BW

SyTy has a website, not sure what it is, though. Maybe syty.com?

Bob - I don't ever remember anyone here going through this. This info is definitely GMECM. I also remember someone from GMECM (John XXXXXX) who was working on adapting the 2bar map for the 730 code. Can't remember who or where though

Guess I am the guilty party..lol I just finished rewiring my 165 harness to a 730. (thanks Mike Davis!) Also the pipe work should be finished this week. I do plan to run 749 software on the 730, but I am not sure what changes to the software need to be made or which Memcal to use. I am going to ask Grumpy about this as he has done this before and has I'm sure many insights. I am hoping to fire my beastie sometime late April/early May. If anyone is interested in a forced induction TPI stay tuned.. Bob Ward

Thanks to all. i did a search today on something & came back up on the Saturn5 web site & knew that i saw it here (@ least i am not as nuts as my wife makes me out to be). I just signed his/your guest book & was going to shoot you an email to see how far you have got.

You mentioned Mike Davis helped you out with your harness. did he help you make it a 7730 TPI harness like i have, or did he help you make it a 749 harness? like the Sy/Ty's? I checked Ludis' site & the diagrams that he has for the cpu are the exact same so maybe it is a direct drop in? the only thing i can think of is that there might be a electronic waste gate or something.

thanks (I am hoping all goes well). i would love to do this mod. if not i am going to have to do the FMU thing & that just rubs me wrong.

thanks again gents, I thought i was begining to smell or something, i did take a shower last week, you know.

Mike has adapted his harness to run either a 165 or 730 ecm. He has on his site a pin to pin swap to convert. He also has many .bins on file. www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ As far as i can tell to add an electronic servo to the 730 is to just add the wire to the correct pin location. I plan to use a Buick wastegate and servo. ( once I find one ). Bob Ward

Bob,

thanks for the reply. I went to the TunerCat web site today & it appears that the Sy/Ty code does control the wastegate (I am guessing from the discriptions of the editable functions). I just read Grumpys reply to you, so i dont understand why it would not. maybe has to do with the memcal?

As i mentioned earlier, when i checked the print on Ludis' site the prints for the ECM's are the same so i dont see whats up. I guess that there is an extra injector driver on one that is either no on or not used on the other one. Does the Buick waste gate run off of manifold pressure, is it electronic & controlled by the cpu or is it controlled by the pilot?

In any case, i guess it is off to search the archives & see what the difference is. Or maybe a peak @ the wiring harness for a Sy or Ty will help out.

thanks & keep us informed on the progress. Cool toy.

But it's not done yet.
Also, will use a dedicated Baro Input, hes' very busy at work, and is pushing to get his EFI332 running. He does have a 730 that he can program tru the ALDL, but reguires modifing the PCB, and other tweaks mire mortals can only stand in ow of

am i on crack here? am i trying to make this more simple than it actually is?

The 7730 & the 7749 are the same ECM, except the 7749 has an extra driver that the 7730 does not have (i would assume that it is being used but dont know)?

if that is the case then the $58 code (Sy/Ty) code ought to be able to run the 7730 ecm?

I can go into the $58 code & change both MAP (1 or 2 bar), Cyls (6 or 8), injector size & Cyl volume. this would allow me to tune the maps/tables to the new motor.

the $58 code though might think that the TPS is on pints 2 & 3 instead of 8 & 9 so a pinout change is in order there, but there are supporting biasing resistors in the ECM so i would not think that many could change.

what am i missing? i dont see any code changes needed, i dont see any machine code changes needed, just some tuning. thanks again, to all.

Bob,

I parused the archives and Bruce ran the 749 code in a 730. There were definitely some changes though. Grap the GMECM_Arhcives.zip and do a search on '749 inna 730' or something like that. Lots of info there. Bruce also lists a date that you can search on for when he first started to dicuss it. Its a beautiful idea for those who eventually go supercharged or turbo since the 749 ECM is very difficult to find.

Tanx amigo,

I started going through it yesterday afternoon, but did not come up with much. I will keep @ it. I think that it is a function of finding the right search phrase.
