I am too getting into the business in programming my own chips.

Just wondering what the difference between the ECU and BIN files are. My understanding of the BIN file is the actual data stored on the PROM and when you make a copy of it on PC it is stored as a BIN. But what is the ECU file used for??

Does anyone recommend any BIN file I can try on my 86 IROC 305 TPI with 3.42 gears and a 700R4 trannie?

 

ECU is a file that translates BIN values into stuff you can use, like tables and constants. Read the article in the link at the top of the page.

 

As for what .bin to start out with... go for the ARAP.bin . Modify it for your fuel injector flow rate, disable VATS, and maybe lower your fan temps while you are at it, and you will be at a good starting point.

That's what I did, and I am lovin' it.
