I just tried the stock 87 bin for my car and it works perfect. I thought arap was i simply had to change the injector constants and disable vats, do i have to do something else. is there a .ecu file for $32b code so i can compare things.

What tranny do you have? Automatic or standard. I may have modified version kicking around that you can just plug in.
You should also set the fans to "Normal Operation" as the stock setting of the ARAP causes the fans to work opposite of normal. If you fans are not working "opposite" and you haven't set the "Normal Operation", then you may not have programmed the BIN properly.
Also, how long are you erasing the PROM? I found difficulties if I didn't quite erase it long enough. It may "read fine" and "look fine", but the ecm puked on it.
Always make sure you check the EPROM for "blank" before programming and VERIFY the eprom after programming...you may find it didn't quite "take". I've caught it a few times not quite erasing or programming properly. Often you can just re-program right on top of it if it was properly erased but didn't VERIFY properly.

I did change the fan logic. I have tried several different erasing times. 5 min, 10 min and 15 min. the chips are brand new so it shouldn't take that long. I couldn't get and 6e bins to work, the stock 32b works fine. but the reason for buying this equipment was to reprogram bins, there is no 32b ecu file. the 6e chips do verify to the buffer.

I am having that same problem
just dropped in the new 383 and 24 # injectors and it will start better with my stock 305 chip than with the arap bin it just turns and then it will kick a couple of times then just turn again. Im thinking that it is an extreme lean condition but i need pick up somemore chips before i can test. My chips kicked the bucket. oh yea my 305 chip is 32b

Have you tried plugging in the CS injector with ARAP?
Recently I have ran into problems with the truck not starting without the CS injector hooked up..
Yea, I know, the 6E code eliminates the CS injector... But I screwed with it for about 30 minutes in the airport parking lot after returning home from Cancun a couple weekends ago, then the next day, screwed with it for about 45 minutes (thinking it was flooded), then I plugged the CS injector back in as a last ditch effort - fired instantly.
BTW - this only happens on cold start, warm starts are great, which makes sense....
Still haven't messed with the CS portion of code.
If you've tried starting the car warm with ARAP, disregard....
I've also got a working (but modified) ARAP I can send you if you'd like to test - auto tranny 305.
As a side note, my truck did the same thing as your car when my Memcal was hosed, wouldn't start with the chip inserted, yet fired and ran poorly without a chip at all. Strangely enough, I am currently running a memcal from an 87 305 car with ARAP.
If you are running a chip that's larger than 128K are you programming the whole thing or just the last 128K? I've fought a host of problems caused by this simple mistake. Probably not your problem because the truck would run, just did weird stuff.

I posted a similar question some time ago. Because of this, and other drivability problems, I have (temporarily, at least) abandoned the $6E code. My car starts and runs better on the $32B. I don't understand this at all because the actual engines to which these apply (87&88 vs 89) are the same. I'm beginning to think there's more to it than changing the chip. I just can't figure it out.
I like some of the features available on the $6E (like highway mode), and I prefer some of the IAC behavior on the $6E. But startup on the $32B is nothing short of amazing - instant, every time! The engine seems smoother during cruise on the $32B, as well.
Yes, I have the fan controls properly set. Yes I disable the cold start injector when running on $6E.
Sometimes I wonder if the IAC valve design was changed for '89 so that it needed different control logic. I sure would like to see the "hacks" for these two programs so I could figure out the IAC logic. There are definite changes I would like to make, but can't get to.

I am running the ARAP in my car and don't have a problem in the world. I downloaded the 305 bin from Zaphodb, changed a few constants, like temp the fan turns on, burned the chip, and it runs WONDERFUL. I then disconnected the Cold start and no problems whatsoever.

BTW: I use the '87 timing curve and TCC control settings in my $6E (ARAP based) chips.

Ok ive got mine figured out, but now im not so sure it is the same thing happening to you.
For some reason my injectors have a pulse of 0 while im trying to start it. some times it will go to 1 and the motor will kick but not start. Sooooo I shot it with some starting fluid and i fired up so quick you wouldnt believe. It seems to me all I have to do is get it over 500 rpm and it will run.
Also is says 2.5 ms pulse when its at idle (800rpm) It says it is running lean. With 24 # injectors shouldn't this be rich??

Gtaboy,
Actually, my car in the sig idled at 144int with the blm locked at 128. And that was with the stock arap adjusted for injectors. So I can see how its possible.

I got my car to run on the 6e code, sometimes. My arap code the rev limit was set to 27 rpm?? i changed it. the apym code still had vats on, now that runs. However; sometimes my car wont start at all on any chip(even stock) It also trips a code 33 sometimes. other times it will run great for a 2 hour 100 mi trip??
I don't know if this would have anything to do with the starting problem. But could the tranny type have any play into the problems?
Maybe IAC positions? The ARAP was for an auto.. and the APYP was for the 6speed.
Maybe the difference is in the amount of correction?
Anybody having problems with the ARAP code ever try a different $6E chip? Like one from an Fbody? instead of a Ybody(ARAP)..?

APYU is a stock '89 5.7L automatic bin. That's what came in my car. The "stock" ARAP works just fine. Apparently the modifications that I made to the bin screwed it up somehow. I'm going to make one change at a time now and track everything.
I used the ARAP and stock 6E code. The ARAP had problem immediately starting for some reason. I never did track it down. But that was when I had my 305. Now I have the modded 350 and use the ARAP code. The problems aren't as bad. In fact, the ARAP runs pretty good with my combo.

Instead of ARAP, I have switched to APYU (stock '89 IROC 350 automatic) with good results. I made all of my changes to that base bin and it seems to work much better. The startup problem has essentially gone away. It doesn't start quite as quickly as with the '87 code and the CS injector hooked up, but damn close. I think (hope) I can improve it with the Warm IAC Park Counts settings. I'll keep y'all posted.
