Found a cheaper eprom burner! Only $80

It's a kit but I'm sure it comes with all the parts and the board. Take an evening and through the thing together and you've got yourself a really cheap programmer. Comes with software. Anybody have any comments or experience with this unit?

edit: My bad, it's a complete unit, not a kit! Talk about a good deal.

Would it be cheaper because you can't program 28's or 29's with it? Most seem to love their EEPROM's.

Since it only does 27's, you'll still need a UV eraser (or a steady supply of chips).

I ordered one about a month ago and have still not received it. I think the company is in Australia.

If I don't get it today, I plan on buying the Pocket Programmer and sending the other one back, if I ever get it.

My suggestion is to buy the Pocket Programmer and forget the cheap route. That's what I should have done.

EDIT: Went back to look at my emails to see when I ordered this thing. Order was placed Sept. 4th. Got notification that it shipped on Sept 11th. Sent them email asking for the tracking number on Sept. 20th. Next day I got response saying it shipped "regestered" (which I think is Australian for slow boat to Texas), but there is no way to track the shipment. This all occured during the World Trade center stuff so I'm sure it was delayed some because of that. A week to send the order out? What's up with that?

I dont know if shipping delays are the same in both directions but it usually takes 3- 6 weeks to get stuff I order in from the states to Australia so expect a long wait (this was before the WTC problems)

I've ordered heatsinks from AUS; if they send by air, it's a few weeks; if by "surface" (read: ship), it takes over a month.

Best to use a charge card...

Well, I still don't have it, but I've decided to not buy the Pocket Programmer yet. I want to try the Futurlec PROM burner first and report my findings (good or bad) on this board.

Futurlec is known for there long turn-around times. I ordered some atmels from them one time and waited for 3 months. They were in stock and I would see them in 3 days indeed....

The best thing about the pocket programmer is the support. You get all of the updates free for one year. IF you have any trouble with your programmer (like I did), they will EASILY fix it free.

I bought one of these programmers and they work fine. They will do the 29 series of chips AND they will work using the Xtronics software.
