engine died, restarted
engine died, restarted
So I was sitting in the parking lot at safeway this morning while my girlfriend bought some kodiak...lol
the engine died then came back to life (happened w/i two seconds)
I think my fuel pump is going out for real this time. no error codes
my tune is pretty good, IMO- who knows though
opinions?
-saw a guy getting out of his black '07 Z06 vette, too. WOW
500 HP. he said it was 77k out the door. not bad for a car that will smoke 99% of vehicles out there

Time to drop that tank and R&R the pump. I was thinking, maybe we can put a current shunt and monitor pump current via EBL. EBL has 10 Bit A/D which can be used for delta current measurments - it can be used as alarm triger. Just another bit of info worth looking into.

Re: engine died, restarted
THAT is cool.
I am dreading this pump change.
I have some time, though. crap this is gonna suck
I like that idea, RF
you can't monitor everything all the time, though. Maybe some new code to let you know when something odd happens (besides standard OBD1 crap)
calling Rbob...lol

Re: engine died, restarted
what are you runnin, RF?
I think the whatsup already has the pump voltage readout- left side.
It would be really cool to have something that gave you warning signs, htough

Re: engine died, restarted
holy crap- just drove the shat out of my truck to the beer store. Much faster than before the WB tuning session(s). Blm is stable-124/131 in most areas (besides bleeding down to idle).
It feels faster than my girlfriend's 3300 pound BMW 335xi.
amazing for a 7000 pund truck
Maybe even on par with my old 95 Z...
maybe that's the busch light talkin...lol
this is after pulling a boatload of AE
WB rocks
I'm not suckin any you know what, but that darn EBL rocks. my mileage, power, and just general 'engine running good' feeling grows all the time.
that's mostly because of TGO, FSC and EBL. rock and roll

Sounds like you have fun! Just got back home from dinner with in-laws. XYL had a long chat and I had nothing else to do but to cruise on TGO on my Blackberry. But getting back to original idea. Fuel pump current sense will require some circuit fabrication. My favorite high side current sense IC is from Linear Tech LTC6101.
Let assume that fuel pump draws 5 amps at 12 Vdc. The voltage drop across low resistance shunt (0.01 Ohm) is very low = 0.05V which needs to be amplified to a level that A/D in EBL can handle (0 to 5Volts). LTC6101 will do just that. I'll put a small circuit diagram tomorrow. If I have them in the lab I'll put a test circuit together and see if I can monitor my FP's.
Ahhh about my ride. Well, just like you I am into heavy metal, except my is 1975 C20 Heavy duty. According to docs, it 'The Beast' is 4850 lbs dry. Currently it is powered with 350-CID and backed by 700R4. 350 will have TBI on top of it soon. With gas at $3.35 carburetor does not have a chance. Current mileage is around 13 MPG while it used to be less than 10 with TH-350. So, If I can get into 15's I will be happy. I am very close to dropping a hammer - ripping old intake and dropping Holley 300-49 with SBC TBI. The biggest hold up was plumbing - my fuel system is probably more complex then B-737. I have duel tanks, surge tank, low pressure FP, high pressure FP, tank selection - you get the picture!

Re: engine died, restarted
holey fuel system, batman!!!
I love the tuneability of TBI. The What'sup is giving me about 21.5 MPG in lean cruise right now. (15.9 AFR)..love it.
Carbs are dead unless you have a 'rod on the track, IMO.- (bet if you could build it, TBI would do better)
'The Beast' could fly with some tuning.
I don't know how, but maybe there's a way to program one of the unused option bit codes to read a a/d port and interpret in the .xdf.
I'm out of my league there, who knows

Yea, that will be the way to go. The old C3 had very little wiggle room for extra I/O - they were designed in early eighties!
I have several flavors of C3 ECM to play around with, three 7747, one 8747, one 8746, and couple 6965. All of them are more less pin for pin compatible except for IAT/MAT inputs and AIR divert/selection missing from 7747. If you are willing to give up IAT and hack the code - hm-mm that's a possibility. I am not versed in 68xx programming - not my cup of tea.
But EBL heads up can monitor this A/D with ease. Maybe RBob can shed a light.
BTW I am lookng for $62 XDF for TP RT.

nice. Right on RF

Yeah, but my wife loves the 'Beast'. She knew going into it (marriage) that 'Beast' comes along. Plus, she likes riding in it - as she says that every one gets the hell out of our way when they see that garage door grill appearing in full size in their review mirror! The tricky part of having a 'project' is the balancing act - i.e. spending quality time with XYL. I found that planning ahead works the best. It also helps to have a daily driver that makes 30 MPG, but it is not as much fun!
Ok, here is the circuit, Ill have to get some samples from distributor, make a test board and tested. The whole thing may take couple of weeks.
