Yes you need to get an adapter. What ECM do you have? The 7165 is the G1 adapter, but I would just get the GP1 package with the ZIF socet and chips.

I believe you should have a '7730 or similar ECM that uses a removeable MEMCAL to hold the EPROM, knock filter and Limp Home chips.
You will need a G1 adaptor, this is ECM specific, that is why it is not included with the APU1 package.
I would suggest also getting a ZIF socket S2, so that it is easier to switch back and forth between EEPROMs, and the Auto Prom, or two different EEPROMs. If you were getting something other than the Auto Prom, I would suggest the GP1, since it is a MEMCAL adaptor, ZIF socket and 2 SST27SF512 EEPROMs in one package. The APU1 comes with two SST27SF512 EEPROMs if I'm not mistaken, so 4 EEPROMs might be a bit much, if you're only planning to use this for personal tuning.

Best way is to get to your ECM and look at the service number, from there we will be able to get you the correct parts. BTW there are a number of ECMs that all use the G1 MEMCAL adaptor.

This is a little bit ridiculous, to be honest. Please try to post once, with all of your questions nice and clearly stated with as much information as possible. This helps us to help you. And turning off caps will help immensely as well. Learn the lay of the land around here, do some searching, lurk for a bit, then post your questions. This is, afterall, a "Do It Yourself" forum.
Welcome to the forum, by the way. There are lots of helpful bits of informative nuggets here.
