Check engine light- NO CODE

I was adjusting TPS and IAC, but the battery died so I put it on a charger. When I tried to restart the car it was dead. I could hear the fuel pump but no crank at all, complete silence. I then noticed after turning the key to the ON position. The Check engine light stays on solid and doesnt turn off. I looked at a live datalog and had no codes... only thing I did see was the voltage at the fuel pump says at 0.00 even when I try to start the car but I can hear the fuel pump pumping. I Then tried putting a jumper between the A+B terminal to look for codes.. just "12" nothing else?? I have recently installed MSD 6AL and landed pos and neg under that battery terminals as per MSD..Any ideas???

Re: Check engine light- NO CODE

The check engine light will stay on until the engine is actually started, then it will turn off. The "security" light though (VATS) will turn off after a few seconds in the Key ON position....

Re: Check engine light- NO CODE

maybe I'm remembering wrong, I thought the check engine just flashed when turning the key forward, anyway my vats is disabled. Still wondering why I can hear the fuel pump when turning the key forward or pulling and replacing the fuel pump fues but is now always showing 0.00 volts for the fuel pump in the datalog? I also checked all fuses and they are all good.

Re: Check engine light- NO CODE

The ECM will activate the fuel pump for a few seconds (prime) when in key ON position, but then the pump turns off right after until the engine is actually started....

I just put this Warbo 255 fuel pump in like 600 miles ago, why do u think it went bad? I do hear it prime if I let it sit for a while then turn the key forward. I just spoke to a mechanic friend and he is telling me to ckeck my grounds and fuseable links by the starter?

The ECM will trigger the fuel pump for about two seconds during key ON, then it will turn it back off. The pump will be re-enabled when it receives reference pulses through the ignition module when the engine is started. In key ON though, the pump will only run for about two seconds, then turn off. Did you try jumping the starter directly? With the key in the ON position, jump the battery with a screwdriver to see if it engages. If it doesn't trigger, then there is a problem between the starter and the battery (bad battery, bad starter, loose cables, corroded battery terminals, poor grounds, etc.) If it does trigger, then there is a problem between the column and the starter (fusible link, starter switch, etc.)....

good advice, I let myself get side tracked into thinking it was a bigger issue. Thanks
