Re: Memcal ESC repair

If the crack is only across the board traces, then with some patience, and good soldering equipment it could likely be repaired. If there are broken components, then the repair would be more difficult, because of the need to source the components.

How did it get cracked?

It happened, I believe, when I was trying to put in a moates with the chip....I just spoke with Byron Johnson at GMEPROM.com.....he can either send me a replacement prom for $140 or put an LT-1 Knock module in my existing chip...ayone dealt with them before?

Re: Memcal ESC repair

I would be interested to see what the LT-1 knock sensor would do as a replacement. Would I tend to see more false knock counts?, etc....sorry not a tuner so not familiar with how it all works

I wouldn't recommend an LT1 knock filter, the center frequency doesn't match up. There are better options available. First need to decide whether you want to keep the stock CALPAK's. For an LT5 engine it would likely be best to.

For a filter, can swap one from another MEMCAL onto yours. Ones that are a very close match, the LB9, '90-'92 TPI 5.0L f-body knock filter is a good choice.

Another good choice is the LH0, '90-'92 MPFI 3.1L f-body knock filter.

They can be swapped onto your MEMCAL. Need to be careful, but it is doable.

RBob,

Good to know there may be some subs available. As usual, thanks.

RBob,

If these knock filters would work, couldn't we avoid the soldering issue just by using that memcal w a Moates adapter for the LT-5 specific calibration piggybacked? Or is the form factor different?

I was looking at it from the standpoint of retaining the LT5 CALPAKs. Both for limp mode and if it is required to place the ECM into the 8-cylinder injector firing rate.

Re: Memcal ESC repair

And in keeping with the thread topic, does it have an LT5 compatible ESC module?
