My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

Hello there ppl .. this is Nate, I just recently joined third gen and also just recently got my EBL flash about a month ago, ever since I've been reading every thread I can find regarding tuning with the EBL. So far I got my fueling pretty close to straightened out I had a fuel pressure issue at first just got that fixed last week and now my BLM based learns seem to be improving much faster . My BLM is usually within 6-7 and int within 8-10 .. So a few more learns should get me spot on with a few changes to bpc and or pw tables .. So now I'm wanting to get some more SA in because I just don't have the power I had with the custom chip from Harris performance right now I'm using a stock LO3 table + 10% across board ... So I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good table to start with or modify the current table somehow ..

Here is a list of performance mods for an idea of what I'm working with ..

Custom 3" CAI w/come filter completely outside of engine bay , pod spacer , 1" HVC TB spacer(CFM TECH), coil , cap , rotor , & wires all by msd , 1.6 ratio full roller rockers, headers 1.5" primaries 2.5" collector, 2.5-3" y pipe, full 3" exhaust, TPI fuel pump, EBL, FP at 17psi w/55# injectors, T-5 Trans , 4.10 posi , & lots of suspension upgrades

Like I said I'm just starting to learn about all this tuning stuff and just looking for a little insight on some SA stuff .. any other recommendations would also be greatly appreciated .. Thanks ahead of time for any info !

Edit: Oh yea .. I run 93 octane at all times

Re: My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

can you read the $61 from tbi chips ? You might want to compare the curve of yours to a L03 automatic like a ANTT or AXKT after you make any changes do the ve learn again.

Re: My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

I have no idea what the $61 antt or axkt means lol.. I thought u just needed to know tht stuff for burning chips an not with the ebl ... But thanks for the suggestion on spark table

And I don't have an actual chip in the ecm anymore and I don't have a way to read the two chips I have that were in the ECM

Re: My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

$61 is the definition for the 1228746 89 - 92 F & B Cars, LO3 & LO5 Eng. ANTT and AXKT are known as broadcast codes the letters on top of the eprom. You can view the sa table with tuner pro and copy it over to your ebl .bin. If you want a read of the 2732 eprom I would be more than happy to read it for you and post your .bin on this thread so you can look at it and do comparisons. I don't think you can compare a $61 directly to the ebl .bin's because of the different code but you can compare it to a stock .bin and see what all was done and make those changes to your ebl .bin. Pm me if you want my shipping address I don't mind helping just pay shipping back to you on the eprom.

Re: My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

So I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good table to start with or modify the current table somehow ..
OEM's sped many hours on a dyno optimising tune for max perf, drivability , and emishions. It is best done there but that takes a lot of $$ spent. WOT can be tuned for MPH at a 1/4 mile. A WB will help shooting for a leaner A/F than stock(12.8?).

Many will say bring in the timing soon. I recently used a LT1 iron and LT4 alum head SA table and split the table differences. So I am more agressive than the LT1. I have alum aftermarket heads(2007). I also brought in the max timing I saw(42) in earlier. I was able to do a full throttle and then could see the progression of RPM/MAP cells used and added timing sooner in those cells.

It was said to add timing till you get KC's but that also is said NOT to be a good idea .

Here is the main spark table from a axkt, there are more factors than just the main sa and the $61 code is not as good as rbobs but just for example.

Cool .. That looks slightly more aggressive than mine .. But why does the 400-1200 rpm area at 90-100 kpa have negative values ? Sorry for being a noob lol ... Mine has 0 in those areas

A automatic tune will have more sa than a manual trans calibration, I would rely on rbob , ronny and other ebl user to determine the best starting point for you since they have the calibration file. You will need to use a manual trans .bin to have a good start with iac control.

Re: My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

Ok we'll I looked into the LO3 auto sa tables and they do have more sa in most of the table but some areas say 25% of the table actually has less ... Another thing I read somewhere said that I could have my sa come in earlier due to higher rear end ratio is this correct ? And do y'all think I should just start with an LO3 bin or could I possibly use another bin and reduce it slightly by a percentage ? If I should start with an LO3 bin how should I go about modifying it ? Raise the whole table by a percentage ? Raise whole table by a fixed value ? Say 2* at a time or what ? Thanks again , Nate

Re: My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

Ok I got a couple more ?'s ... I just ordered a new TB from CFM tech because I found mine had a vacuum leak at the throttle shafts .. So supposedly these flow 620 CFM over the factory 480 CFM .. And I was just wondering if there are any parameters y'all can think of that need to be changed due to this increase of airflow ? My second question is how can I take full advantage of the cold air intake I just made ? Before I was gettin IAT reasons of around 100* while Doin say 50 mph on a 55* day and now I'm only reading about 5* over ambient temp. Thanks for any help in advance !

you need to look at the code you are running and use the stickys. Here is a good explanation on turning the mat into a iat .

I have been reading everything I can find on the ebl And anything to do with ppl that have close to the same setup I have or same engine .. But like I said in OP I just recently joined third gen and am still finding out out to navigate through the forum and find exactly what I'm looking for .. But in a side note , I don't have a MAT .. TBI comes factory with an IAT

MAT (Manifold Air Temperature) and IAT (Intake Air Temperature) are essentially the same thing the same thing. One is in the intake manifold (MAT) and one is in the air cleaner (IAT). You use one or the other, not both.

Could you post some part numbers for your CAI system (carb bonnet, etc)? I want to run something very similar in my Caprice, was even planning on routing it where the charcoal can is aswell. Thanks.

Re: My 91' LO3 EBL tune thread

I'm getting some open loop idle surge from about 600-1200 rpm .. Seems like it goes lean then rpm drops then richens up then increases then back down Etc . Then when it goes closed loop it cleans up a good bit but still a slight surge 650-85-900 rpm .. Any suggestions ? Also when in closed loop it surges down then AE comes on briefly then back up

Enrich the lean areas, going lean causes the RPM to surge upward.
