Re: EBL Basic Issues

The ECM doesn't have anything to do with the spark timing until the engine is running. It cranks at the base setting. Your damper & timing tab are a mismatched set.

And that is the exactly a problem Rbob was pointing to!!! Look, position of the tab TDC notch can be altered relative 0 deg marking on the harmonic balancer. You have mismatched set of parts - balancer and tab must be a matching set......

To get this right you must:
(1) locate actual cylinder #1 TDC - this the position at which #1 cylinder piston is at its upper most travel position. Nothing else really matters !!
(2) Everything else is relative to piston TDC position and can be adjusted. You will have to get adjustable tab pointer like this:

Re: EBL Basic Issues

Maybe it's the POV, but that timing tab looks like it's flying higher off the balancer than it should. I recall mine being much closer to the circumference of the balancer. I used a Fluidamper on my Xfire.

Re: EBL Basic Issues

Here is my files.
New timing tab arrives today and I will post it up. At most though I see it moving a few degrees. Not exactly solving why i seem to be off by 10* or why it wont start at anything less than 18-20*.

If this solves it though I kid you not. Send me your address' and Ill send out 6packs.

Re: EBL Basic Issues

First. Thanks to every ones advice she appears to be on the right path of ve learning with the correct timing. She does have major trouble restarting when hot but I'm replacing a coil first before I look further into that.

I'm curious though. While its running smoother with the ve learns its also still seemingly running a bit lean. I have a new 18lb spring coming to help quench my uncertainty of the current spring. But what sa tables would be recommended for my heads... 441 castings. 73cc chambers. 2.02 1.60 valves pocket porting and polishing. Yes guys sorry. It is a 5.7 in a truck though

Re: EBL Basic Issues

Found yourself some old heads there. Being an open chamber head they are probably going to like something near 36* BTDC at WOT above 2000 RPM.

As for a general overall SA MAP, not sure. What you can do is to copy the Main & Extended SA tables into your BIN from various others and try each one. Stay away from the L03 & L05 BINs, they are swirl port heads (very low SA).

The base TBI BIN can be tried, but may be on the low side of SA. The HT502 BIN (_2025) looks like it may work. Can also try the 5.7l TPI BIN (_3005), need to raise the SA at 3200 due to the dip at that RPM (tuned runners).

Re: EBL Basic Issues

Well I am now using the 2025 tune and in open loop she runs great. Closed loop she bogs just after acceleration. Trying to figurr it out but struggeling.

Re: EBL Basic Issues

Bogging after acceleration is usually too much AE. Check a log file for areas where you accel'd, look at the INT at that point. With too much AE the INT will drop down which as the AE runs out causes a lean sag.

Re: EBL Basic Issues

OK, I got my laptop fixed so I can play with it tonight.
Just to confirm that when its bogging down in closed loop If I lay into it 50% throttle it seems to "catch up" after a minute and correct itself.
Also just tapping the throttle seems to work if I were to just give it light acceration and let off, then light acceleration let off ect.

SO, just checking that seems to be pointing to too much fuel?
MY VE learns are pretty much all zero'd out at this point.

Re: EBL Basic Issues

Need to look at a data log of the event. Tap the space bar when this occurs to place markers in the data stream. Makes it easy to find the locations.

Look at what the O2 s reporting, along with what the INT does (if not going into PE mode).
