Memcal Compatibility

What I want to know is if it is possible to use a '730' memcal in a '165' ECU. Based on pictures that I have seen the memcals seem like they might be swap-able. They seem to be similar sizes. I dont have both on hand to test. But if a '730' memcal would physically plug into a '165' ECU would it damage the computer? Could you reprogram the chip on the '730' ecu with '165' bin and make it run? I could not find this on the forums anywhere. I know this seems like an odd question but it does have a purpose.

Re: Memcal Compatibility

Yes, you can use a '7730 MEMCAL in a '7165 ECM. Should either remove the knock filter from the MEMCAL, or remove the external knock filter. Other wise will end up with two knock filters.

Re: Memcal Compatibility

The reason that I asked this is one I do not have both memcals on hand. The second is I am running OSE12P which not a lot of people are running here but its worked well for me on my '165' ecu. One thing I did not really look into is the possibility of making a knock sensor functional on my OSE12P on my '165' ECU. In Australia on their '808' ECU they got an internal knock sensor on their memcal before we did in the states. So you can probably see where I am going with this. But basically I would like to use a 90-92 5.7L memcal with the integrated knock filter with a 90-92 5.7L knock sensor and then program the chip to run on OSE12P. I have found some references to this here in the past but I want to find a workable solution for myself and anyone from the US who might decide to try OSE12P. If you can think of any problems with using a reprogrammed later memcal let me know.
