Finally working on my 1990 Camaro.

So my last post was in April of last year about this car, things happened between then and now that halted the process of getting it and working on it.

Anyway. So not that it’s at my house, I wanted to make sure the structure was solid enough to work with before trying to bring it back to life. And with no surprise, I found some rusted out spots. First find was in the T-Top weather strip channel (no surprise right?). There were minor rust spots that I killed with Evapo-rust, then came the finding of a hole that was on the back portion of the t-top channel that went into the body cavity. Everything in that area is still pretty solid, I poured more evaporative-rust into it and I’m currently letting that sit over night. The next spot I found rust in, which might be worse than the one in the roof, is the floorboard under the driver seat. Stomping on the floorboard ahead of the seat is solid, just not where the seat meats the floor. I don’t really know what the best course of action is to be able to remove the seats so that I can remove the carpet is.

So far finding these two rust points have been a bummer but so far I don’t think they’re a deal breaker. The roof still feels solid around the area where the hole is found, though there’s surface level rust in the cavity that I’m hoping the evapo-rust kills. And for the most part, the floors “are” solid except around mounting points.

So while getting into it, I discovered that the brace/bracket (whatever it is called) that holds the seat to the floor has rusted out in one spot. Primarily right where one of the studs were that held the seat in place, the front outer one near the door. I was hoping someone could help me find another one?

Well I’m doing the work myself, showing the progress of where I’m at, while asking for advice and suggestions. I figured to add the question of where I can find a part that I’m looking for to my earlier post instead of making another post.

I’m still pretty much new here, so if I was supposed to post this in another spot, I apologize. I just figured “Hey, I’m working on the car myself and I ran into something I could use help with and this says DIY, let me post here.”

Well currently I’m still in the process of taking out the carpet to get a better look at the floor pans to make sure there’s no spots rusting out. But as of now I know that the rail mounting bracket is rusted out and I was hoping someone knew of a website or something that might have a replacement for it. Where I live there’s not many junkyards let alone third gen Camaros still in the yard.

So then where do I post this? Should I post this in body? Interior?

Body probably, maybe the fabrication section if you're gonna be doing custom floor pan work. The DIY PROM section is for tuning/ ECM stuff, but I can understand the confusion with DIY and all. Hopefully a mod can move this to the right spot for you and help get more eyes on it
