2 Transistor ALDL interface

Hi everyone. I have an 88 IROC and want to run Craigs software on a laptop. My question is when I'm looking for an interface, people refer me to websites with aldls from Lotus Esprits. Are the connections the same for our aldls? What is this 10k ohm resistor rule that people talk of, and do I need to do it on my car? Also, what is this 12volt and ground connection that I need to get and where am I supposed to put it? Thanks everyone for your help

Yes, the Lotuses use GM computers. So the connections are the same. The 10k ohm resistor is needed on some computers to put it into a mode that works with the software. If it doesn't work without the resistor, then add it and try again. You just stick the resistor in just like you would stick a paper clip in if you were pulling codes (the paper clip is a 0k resistor).

You can get the 12v connection from something in the car like the cigarette lighter, or you can get it from the serial port on the computer. The schematics should have both methods for you to choose from. The ground is the same way.

On this link, it says that F supplies a 12volt current. Is it true that the ALDL pin F is a 12 volt power source or am I reading it wrong? If it is, then why do I need power from a cigarette lighter? Thanks

ttt anyone? I just need to know what to hook up pin F to if I can get the 12 volts from another source. Should I Just leave it disconnected and just plug A to the ground and D to the transistors? Thanks for any help.

Pin F will not give you 12v, that diagram is for the lotus ALDL. You will need to get that from another source like the cigarette lighter, also you'll need to use a 10K resistor between A and B pins and pin M is your data line.

Do a search and you will find all the info you need to get her going.
