Wide Band O2 (DIY)
I just finished assembling the Wide Band O2, from the DIY.
Anyone currently using it? I am curious to what others are doing regarding the data logging.
I havent hooked it up to my car yet. When I get it going, I plan on taking the vette to a dyno and comparing with what the Wide Band on the dyno reads compared to this one. I want to make sure it is giving right data before getting on the dyno though.

You still tune for performance, not to get a specific AFR.
You by trial and error find what you car likes, and verify that a change to make the AFR richer/ leaner actually does. Once you say you find out your car likes 2.0v, then you know you right when you see that, if for some reason it changes then you know there's a problem.
Once you compare it to the dyno WB, then how do you know who's is right?.
If you want to do any comparisons you need to get some *sample* gases, so that you actually know what right is.

Good thought on the calibration.
I've got some high-end gas analysis equipment at work. Maybe when I get a WB put together, I can do some comparative analysis and report back regarding accuracy. We have mass spectrometers, gas chromatographs, some straight-line O2 measurement detectors, and all the bottled gas mixtures you could want for.
Could also easily go through a blend of O2/Ar from 0 to 100% and get the calibration curve. At least get dialed in for a given O2 sensor with the DIY-WB setup.
I'll report back in a couple months on this one...

If you can't understand the concept of piracy, there just isn't anything to say.
Piracy, ie thief, it killed several other really neat projects, all over a few bucks, what a concept. Lots of guys put lots and time into the project, do you have any clue about what an effort it was to figure it out?. All that was asked was that the engineers that did the work wouldn't be cashed in on.
If a man can't live by his word he's not even approaching being a man.
To know what the agreement is and avoid it, is just plain non-sense, and that's putting it lightly.
Ol Peter G played the victim game, and broke his own word, pity.
Just read thru the archives for the last year at DIY-EFI. Get the whole picture.

I have not read all the information regarding this, it was already finished when I found it.
I do understand the time and effort that has gone into this project.
If I understand the reson for the DIY-EFI and for this forum as well, it is to help each other and share information. I really apriciate people who do reserch and share their findings. I have written the WinALDL scanner software, and put it on my web-site for free download, and that seems to have helped quite a few.
On my WinALDL page I show how to build the simple interface cable. $2 in parts. I know of web-sites that sell a cable for my software. Prices range from $25 to $70. I don't mind. I don't want to sell cables, and I don't want to limit the the usage of my software only to those with the ability / knowledge to build their own cable.
I found the web-site that sold the PCB. They said that the board was offerd as 'non profit' and from the price I belived them. They also pointed out the DIY-EFI site. I did not see it as piracy, only as a way for people without the ability to build a CB of ther own to still be able to benefit from the effort made by the developers DIY WB. I did not think that it was a bad thing.
From what I hear you say there must have been a lot more going on than I am aware of. I also see that Peter has changed the web-site since I bought the PCB.

Cool Deal JoBy. Thanks for killing that link on your page!. The DIY-WB project is a non-profit project that some people have STOLEN and are trying to make money off of it. By removing your link it makes is harder for them to make money off of OTHER people's hard work.

We are also interested in a/f ratio, not oxygen concentration. Now the a/f ratio is function of oxygen concentration.
I'm not telling you what to do, but I don't believe that the data you from your experiment will do any good with the WB-O2.

Since there is only 21% oxygen in the atmosphere, going beyond 21% is an act in futility.
We are also interested in a/f ratio, not oxygen concentration. Now the a/f ratio is function of oxygen concentration.
I'm not telling you what to do, but I don't believe that the data you from your experiment will do any good with the WB-O2.

However, the lean-burn O2 sensor is just a regular O2 sensor with a diffusion barrier coating to slow down and 'linearize' the O2-voltage relationship. And the only 'active' species to diffuse through the barrier and cubic zirconia 'fuel cell' material will be the dissociated O-O atoms. This is what generates the voltage. The rate at which this dissociation and subsequent gas-solid diffusion occurs will govern the voltage which is generated. Factors such as O2 partial pressure (ie. concentration), and particularly temperature, along with any poisoning or coating/fouling of the sensor, will govern the diffusion rate and the subsequent conduction and potential generation of the O species.
Is there some way that the test gas composition, barring poisons such as high levels of sulfur or other oxidizable species whose catalyzed consumption at the surface of the sensor may locally deplete the O2 concentration, could affect the readings? Perhaps, but I think a straight Ar/O2 mix would be a good stab. Anyways, I'm open for education. I could just as easily put together a gas mixture of CO/CO2/C3H6/O2/etc, water will be more difficult, but I'm set up for that too if it plays a role.
