Did you use the 10k resistor between the A and B terminals on the ALDL connector? You need it! That ECM is used in the TPI Corvette too, and without the resistor it transmits MPG data to the digital dash.
As you see it only 5 bytes of data and the third one is probably fuel usage. I think that another one is distance, and it will start counting up in a similar way when the car is moving.

Strange ... It worked on my friends 86 IROC ... I don't think that it is the cable length.
Try a 3.9k and a short on the A - B terminals too and see if that makes a differance.

I'm having problems getting it to run on my laptop. I think it has to do with the MSFLXGRD file. I run the INSTOCX file and before my computer didn't have a dir named regsvr32.exe, closest thing was regdir.exe. I changed it to that and it gave me an error saying it couldn't register it because of incorrect information. Any way around this? Laptop is an IBM thinkpad 755C running WIN95. It does put the MSFLXGRD program in the system directory but I'm guessing it won't run it because it isn't registered. When I try and open winaldl it just gives me the hourglass for a minute and then the hourglass goes away and nothing happens. Any help is greatly appreciated

You should have a file called regsvr32.exe. Are you sure that you that do not have it?
msflxgrd.ocx did not register on the system and that is the reson for WinALDL not starting.

Smokin, I too have an IBM Thinkpad but mine is the 755cx, same thing. I installed windows 95 off of floppy disks because it doesn't have a cd-rom drive. I had the EXACT same problems as you.
The only thing I had to do was install internet explorer 5.0 and then everything worked. I'm really good with computers but I was stumped when that worked.
Do a search for winaldl and my name.
Did you have any trouble disabling the IR port and built in modem? That was another issue after I got winaldl to actually run
. Stupid IR and modem were taking up both the serial ports "A" and "B" so I had to disable them both.
Let me know through e-mail if you need help.

If you could email me at killer88formula@aol.com and let me know how to disable the IR and the modem. I'm not exactly the most computer literate person in the world. Is there any way that I can create regsvr32.exe and maybe fool the computer into installing it or have someone email it to me and just dump it into my system folder to appease msflxgrd.ocx's need to be registered?
