stepping on brake w/ hazzards

ok just out of curiosity when the hazzard lights are on and you step on the brake, are they supposed to stop flashing, or keep flashing and the third brake light stay on???...87 trans am w/ the checkered tailamps.....:lala:

I know the brake wire travels up into the colume to flip-flop with the blinkers. So I'm willing to bet, since the hazard switch is also tied into the flaher switch, I would say 'NO' the flashers should keep flashing.

I check my vette later to make sure

But I had to completey rewire my tail assembly, and flasher system. The car all out race, and I use seperate toggle switches to through the directional flasher (no place for the flasher arm cause I install quick release steering), and if I through both...instant hazards
I ran the brake to the 4 inners, the flasher on the outer, so my car will in fact allow brakes, and hazards. I had to convert a couple of lights from an 1156 to 1157. It was fun

OK... I confirmed it with my Vette. The brake lights don't come on when the hazzards are on, but the third brake light does. At least on the Vette.

Have Fun,

on many vehicles gm decided that if you were on the brakes that it wouldnt matter if the flashers were working because it was more important that oncoming traffic know you were slowing down. So all the rear lights will come on and stay on--no flashing, this is normal!

Well, not with the '94 Vette at least. It sounds logical to me to have a third brake light to act as the brake indicator, and the rest as a cation indicator(flashing).

I think it varries with models. I fixed a shorted wire in my steering colum on the 87 today and I always check every thing before I get the lock plate and steering wheel back on. I turned on the hazzards and just out of curriostiy I hit the brakes thinking that they would quit flashing cause that is what many GM's do, but they kept flashing and then it dawned on me. Why would they quit flashing? The camaro uses orange blinkers on a seperate bulb and circut than the break lights. When my girl friend gets home with the 89 I will see if it the same as the 87. Now the TA's I think would stop flashing cause they use the same bulb for blinker and stop light right? or maybe the third brake light theroy is right.
