Fuse box smoking. "brake fuse"
Ok i was driving in town today, All of a sudden smoke started pouring out of the dash and vents. I pulled of and the "stop/hazzard" fuse melted down and fell of the metel in it and the metal was extremely HOT!!!. it was blue and orange and all that. So i waited for it to cool and i pulled it out with a towel. so i took another fuse from the glove box and stuck it in and it imediatly popped?! What is causing this. I need help asap. I have no brake lights or hazzards at all..............Thanks

I would first check all exterior lightbulbs (brakes and turn signals). You might have a bad short.

Re: Fuse box smoking. "brake fuse"
I just now pulled all the interior panels from the fuse box back and none of the wires are bad. I dropped the fuse box and the wire going to that fuse is burnt bad right where it plugs in...after that it seems fine, but i also pulled the radio fuse and the box is a lil melted on it to. Fuse is fine and radio works great, i checked its wires and none are bad or grounding. What could be my problem............

bump please help!!!! i cant drive this till i get brake lights. I know someone knows what is wrong and can help me, moderators, seniors of something. I changed the brake switch today and it still keeps popping fuses...........I checked the volts at the fuse box and its showing 12 volts and from what i read it should have none till the brakes or hazzards are apllied.... are there any fusible links from that particular curcuit i can check?

Re: Fuse box smoking. "brake fuse"
The fuse correctly has 12V on it. The power from there goes through the brake switch to the steering column to the multifunction switch (hazards etc).
Did you check your lightbulbs and sockets yet? It's not uncommon to have a short there.

Re: Fuse box smoking. "brake fuse"
i checked all of them and they seem to still have all the wire covering on them and no shorts. the only wire in that curcuit that is burned is about an inch from the fuse block coming out of and and about and inch away then it stops but the wire is not seen through the wrap all of it is still protected.
