Alternator Q.
Alternator Q.
I just switched from the v-belt to serpentine on my 84 Z28. The alternator has switched sides so I need to extend the wires. Here's my question though. The connectors are different. My old one had two spade connectors. The new one (for a 91 Z28) has 3 tiny blades and 1 bigger one. What do I need to do to be able to hook the alternator up correctly?
Thanx.

First, you will need a connector for the new single serpentine type alternator - GM or Pep Boys may sell them. On the connector for the new alternator, the pins should be marked "S F L P", starting with the large pin on the connector. The only two pins you will need to connect to are the large pin, "S", and the small pin next to it, "F". Pin "F" on the new alternator connects to the brown wire that used to go to pin "B" on the '84 alternator. Pin "S" on the new alternator connects to the red wire that used to go to pin "A" on the '84 alternator.

Thanx Tim. Looks like everything is running great. Voltage is around 14.5 ish. Hard to tell with the voltmeter in my car but it looks right on. Finally got the serpentine swap completed. Woohoo!!
