MSD 6A made a difference !

Bought a plane ol MSD 6A from Checker Auto Parts today and the GM adapter for the harness. Being a non believer I thought... "I'll buy it, try it on, and prove my buddy that people over at thirdgen.org are right... MSD 6A's dont give you any horsepower increases or better throtle response whatsoever!".

Well I have to say I LOVE IT. As soon as tapped the gas to get out of my parking space in the Checker parking lot (I put it on in the parking lot) I could tell a difference. Took it down the road and the throtle felt like on a new LS1. Nice and smooth and pulled all the way up to red line. On the G-Tech it gave me 2 tenths. I can definately tell the engine revs faster especially in they higher RPM range where our engines really need any help they can get. I'd say this is a good 100 bucks spent even for the MUCH better throtle response alone.

It just goes to show you that every car is different. I noticed absolutely no difference with mine. In fact, I could not tell that it was even working. So I sold it three months later for $50.

I'm beginning to believe that the MSD ignition is a band-aid for a failing or inadequate stock ignition. You probably have a loose wire, or a coil on its way out, or something else that the MSD is making up for. My drag racer friend told me that his MSD 7 doesnt even make a difference until he gets over 6500 RPMs.

I pretty much second what Kevin said.
when I installed my 6-AL, I also changed all ignition parts including blaster-2 coil.
And from that load of money spent, I can tell you it was not worth it.. of course all that tuning starts from those little things, but I think that if I had left them wires, plugs, cap, rotor and coil not installed, there wouldn't be any difference.

I think so?

Well my engine only has 3000 miles on it so it's pretty new. I have a NEW distributor with a new cap and coil and new MSD 8 mm wires with Rapidfire plugs. Adding the box to THAT setup made a difference. It's mostly throtle response but that alone is worth it to me. I love excelent throtle response with no stumbling or flat spots or bogging of any kind.

I'd say that an aftermarket ign system, like MSD, does probably make a difference, but only above 4500 rpm, or so, where the stock ign system output starts to drop off. You would also probably notice a greater difference if you were using nitrous, or forced induction.

I just installed a MSD 6-AL last night with the blaster coil. I haven't driven it on the street yet, but it starts up easier and it holds it's idle speed, instead of stumbling then catching and reving up for no reason. I like it so for, I'll let ya know ho I like it on the street soon.

Well,I can honestly say that it works for mine. I unhooked it once to diagnose some ignition problems and after fixing them I decided to try it out without the box. After only one trip around the block I hooked it back up. It made a real difference.
