Horn buttons on '91 SIR wheel

I have to squeeze the hell out of the horn buttons and the horn will only stutter. I tested the horns themselves with straight +12V, they're fine. Is there a fix for this, or am I screwed into buying a new wheel or SIR or whatever? Some s**t-for-brains almost hit me today 'cause I couldn't warn him with my malfunctioning horn.

I cant help on a fix, but my horn is the same way. I really have to push on the buttons to make it work.

Welcome to '90-'92 Camaro's. I took mine apart because I had the same problem and found that the plastic contacts that go between the SIR cover and the electrical contactw were broken. I didn't have the parts to fix it so I'm not sure if this will help, but I assume it will. Soryy I couldn't be of more help.

EXACT same problem. My 87 was so much easier... but my 92 is a lot better lookin(just b/c it's not 90% spray paint.. but the 87 was still fast as hell... my L03 is SLOW) I have to squeeze the **** out of the wheel to get the horn to work.. SOMEONE MUST HAVE FIXED THIS..

Rumor has it that the horn buttons were made of weak plastic, which is why they break. I'm switching steering wheels out to a Grant wheel anyways, so I'm not too worried about mine. (this is a 91 Formula)

New horn buttons seem to be the only fix, or coat your old ones with lots of epoxy to strengthen them.

Phantom (or anyone else), do you know if those same buttons are still available? I need to fix these damn things soon, and the wife doesn't like the idea of removing the SIR in favor of a different wheel.

They sell a kit for the horn at the dealer. I dont know the number, but it comes with pieces for both sides. The best way to fix it for good is to put in a new wheel.

I couldn't find replacements anywhere! That's one of the reasons I opted for a new wheel. I suppose a dealer is the best place to look.

Thanks guys, i'll stop by the dealer this Saturday and see if they'll help me.
Where I live, usually they couldn't care less about a guy coming in for 10+year old parts, so I try to avoid them except in instances like this.

EDIT: OK, maybe Moday i'll call if nothing else f**ks up on the car, got stuck doing the fuel pump today.
