alternator question

I had both the alternator and the battery replaced.
And the battery again, yesterday.

On the dash, it's hovering around 10 instead of 13. When i use the turn signals, they blink like 3 times a minute if they blink at all. And sometimes the radio cuts off. Windows go up real slow.
Ok, I'm hearing from R & S that something is draining the battery. Sometimes I hear a very faint high pitch noise even with the car off and the keys out if the ignition. Sorta sounds like if i had left the keys in, but it's very faint. You can barely hear it.
Maybe this is whats causing the battery to drain. Any idea what it could possibly be?
Anyone know of a trust worthy electrical shop in central New Jersey. Or, does anyone do this kinda stuff on the side? I'll pay ya!

I just got the interior & exterior looking really nice too! Doesn't that figure? What good are looks if the car doesn't run?
Thanx guys

It is. What do you have voltage wise across the battery terminals. That's the first step.

You need a voltmeter first. Measure the voltage at both battery terminals with the engine running. It should be about 14 volts or so. If it's around 12 with the engine running it is not charging for some reason. Do you have an electric rear hatch? The whine you hear may be the hatch motor not shutting off and it WILL drain the battery. It is also a common problem.

Not that anyone cares, but here's where i'm at now with this thing. I removed the #11 20 amp fuse (just to see if the rear hatch could be the problem) I jumped the car, went for a ride, smelled something odd, not antifreeze, but like cotton candy or something, (could it have been me or was i being paranoid?) (and no, i didn't drive past a carnival)

When I got home, i turned off the car, removed the keys, and theres that high pitch noise again, what the ****? so i hit all the off switches, rear defog, high beams, dome switch etc.....just for the hell of it, i turned on the headlights, then off again, and the noise stopped.
And yes the car started right away, lets see if it does after it sits for awhile.

<fingers crossed>

Makai -

This might sound a little Off-the-Wall, but next time you hear that high pitched humm agian go to the back of your car and unscrew your fuel cap. Stop laughing, i am being serious. Mine does the same thing, a high pitch humm when I shut him down, and when I take off the Gas Cap, it hisses (i guess releasing the pressure in the tank), and the noise goes away. Someone told me once that its some kind of pressure built up in the fuel pump or something. Whether that's true or not, I dont know.

Hope maybe that helps,

Kurt
