Monsoon wiring.. please help
Ok, I've got a monsoon CD player from a 97 TA, and it's got a 20 pin connector in the back, AND another connector with a green wire, a black with white wire, a green with white wire, a black wire, a brown with white wire, and just a bare silver wire. bassicly I'm trying to figure out what all these wire go to, if anyone has any clue, or knows where I can get a diagram that says what they all are, that would help greatly.

Go to your local Pontiac dealer and see if they would photo copy any pages out of the service manual for the 97 ta they might because I have done that in Des Moines with no problem. only other option would be buy a manual from www.helm.com

I don't know if I can halp but I remember all the colors of wires I have dealt with in 3 seperate CD installations. This held true for Honda and Pontiac wires and JVC, Pioneer and AIWA CD players... you'll have to make educated guesses with the funny colors unless you have the manual for the CD Player, in any event as long as you disconnect the battery and keep yellow, black and red wires away from each other and the other wires, plug in and test etc. meathods will work out eventually... of course if all the colors are funny then it's best left to a manual or professional...
Wire colors:
Red... Battery to accessory to CD
Black... Ground
Yellow... direct from battery (powers CD memory, clock and power off eject)
white... right front pos.
white w/ black stripe... right front neg.
grey... left front pos.
grey w/ black stripe... left front neg.
purple and green are rear speakers... not sure which sides... ones with black stripes are always negative
blue... power antenna
one last thought... if you go to a car stereo place and you show them what CD player you have and tell them what car you have they can probably hook you up with an installation kit for about 20-30 bucks...

Future plans:
New Paint - take out two small rust holes
Reupholster the ceiling (bare foam now)
Highflow Cat-back exhaust
Single 12" Subwoofer... don't need to break windows

Those other weird colors are for steering wheel controls or something like that...just unplug (and save) that connector and forget about it.
The other one should have the standard GM colors....yellow, orange, gray, pink, black, brown....some greens and blues. You'll notice that they're the same factory colors as what your car has.
I'll be glad to tell you what each wire color does...but as you can see, there are duplicates of each color, so you'd still have to be careful.
First, you'll want to buy a wire harness adapter for your car...they go for like $16. If you want to make the install simple, go to Best Buy and pick up a "reverse harness" that fits your '97 radio...it will plug right in like the one you have.....but it will have the EIA standard wire colors on it...just wire it up color-for-color to the other harness you bought.
Anyway, here are all the colors for you, and I'll try my best to describe where each one is:
There are four wires all next to each other...dark blue, light blue, brown, and yellow. They are the rear speakers:
LR+: brown
LR-: yellow
RR+: dark blue
RR-: light blue
The four front speaker wires are all next to each other in a row as well:
RF+: light green
RF-: dark green
LF?: gray
LF?: tan....I forget which is +/- on LF speaker....just wire it to match your factory colors.
Now that you've identified the speaker wire colors, here are the power ones:
Constant: orange
Switched: yellow
Ground: black
Antenna: pink
Dimmer*1: gray
Illumination*2: brown
*1 Varies voltage with posistion of dimmer switch on dash.
*2: Steady 12V+ whenever parking lights are on.

I have no idea...maybe it goes off to the factory sub or something.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure those Monsoon decks still have their own internal amplification as well. Do those colors I listed match up to what you have?
