160 amp alternator question

i have the chance to get 160 amp alternator for $130 plus $12 for shipping and all that stuff. is it worth it?

Stay away from it if it uses the stock housing. There won't be enough of a heatsink to keep it properly cooled. The best choice is get the alternator used in the B4C and Caprice Police cars. It requires an adaptor piece, but it is a direct bolt in and even maitains the same length serpentine belt. This alternator has a larger diameter case and much better cooling. Good luck, Lon.

Axle/Gears: Moser 9", Detroit Locker, 3.70
If you go with the 140 ampere B4C alternator and bracket from GM, I've found that the bracket needs to be modified slightly (some filing) to fit the alternator. Also, you will need the longer GM rear brace.

i got a 190 Amp that fits right into the stock housing, and its made by US Generators, and i havnt had a problem...

the alternator cost me around $350 at the time, and i purchased it from my local car stereo shop, he ran 4 gauge from engine to alternator to ground and all that also, for a grand total of $650 ($100 in connectors), and it held up to my 2 15' XLC's just fine, now, my 2 15' Power DVC's, might be another story

mail me for more i dont check electronics that often...
