If you're looking to test for 12v on (headlight maybe?
) wires, stick one probe wire (if it has that option) in the spot that has the VW, usually red around it as well, this is the +12v terminal (and also used for reading resistance or ohms)
The other probe wire plugs in the the spot that has COM by or under it along with the 3 bars that get progressivly smaller, this is ground.
Set the range (if it has one) to DCV, and, again if it has this option, set it above 12 volts. Mine has positions for 2, 20, 200, & 1000 DCV.
That should be all you need for checking for DC voltage on your car.
