one for the experts, whats this wire

hey guys,
I found a wire right next to my battery, its yellow and dissappears into the black tubing mess, it has a in-line fuse, and the end has a round metal piece that looks like a screw or bolt could go threw, any ideas, could this be related to my headlights not working?

Is it thick gage wire? Sounds like it might have been an old pwr supply for an amp. Ever try to trace it? try to pull it out of the loom--but easily.

i have seen literally just about every wire that is under my hood, because i reidid alomst all of my wiring and put new tubing over it. i have never seen a yellow wire from the battery. i think its an "add-on" that somebody put on before you had the car.

also, an inline fuse holder isnt GM's style. they like to use the fuse panel. are you sure its not a fusable link?

what exactly is a fusable link, just a wire with a fuse in it? and the wire is not that thick of a guage, its not affecting anything but its bugging me.

To my understanding a fuseable link is a spot where the wire is two sizes smaller then the wires it is protecting. That way if it starts pulling to much power the smaller area will melt and not damage the larger wires.

that is basically what it is.

it looks like a hard plastic tube that your wites go in. its about the diameter of a pen and usually a couple inches long. usually black too.

when you have too much amperage going through it, it destroys the wire inside.

kind of a pain in the a$$ because if you blow a fusible link, you have to replace the whole damn wire.

sounds like you had either an amp or aftermarket foglights. Something that could draw some juice. Maybe even an old pos alarm system.
