Computerized car.....

In an effort to make my car look even more cooler then it is (yes its possible ) i want to have a computer desplay in my car that gives me details about my car such as speed torque temp air/fuel mixture and such i heard something from one of my freind and he said that i was possible but i want to check it with u guys first before i waste time / money investing in usless hopes to make my car look cooler

Note: i posted the same thing in the tech form but i thought i would give electronics a try cuase i kinda fits in both and hopefuly i will find a good awnser between the two forms

go to MSD, they have a program like that for a laptop, if you could mold the laptop onto your dash, w/ a touch screen it might work, but I dont really know. Eather or, the program is at msdignition.com and you need a dis system to make it work (it's worth the money). here's a screen shot of it.

Oh wait, just put a small laptop in the trunk or something, run the video out to a car deck with one of those lcd screens, than get a wirless keyboard, and just keep it under the drivers seat for quick changes in you fuel, timing, etc... There ya go!

Are you any good with electronics?

Here's one you can build yourself for probably less than $30 in parts and some time.

http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/projects/aldl160/

Of course it only works with 160 baud ALDLs and you never specified what car you're thinking about doing this in.

The DIS is a distrubeterless ignition system, one of the things about this kind of rig is that it doesn't just display you stats, you can also change them, if you want to change your timing just click on the curve you want to change, if your boosting too much and going lean on your A/F ratio gauge, just change your fuel-boost ratio. You can also change when your shift light comes on for each gear, all sort of stuff. The will run you a cuple grand though.

if you got $1500 to put into it, haltech makes a program thats perfect for what we wanna do, it comes with sensors , everything the whole deal minus the lap top, ....the program is called the e-11......but its pricey as hell.....check it out, ...its my next goal/dream/wish:hail:

Ok, here's what ya need: the MSD DIGITAL CPC IGNITION SYSTEM (PIN 6215) [THAT'S FOR V8], included in that is, the box, 12 but connectors, 2 program switch covers, 1 cabel assembly, 1 bypass plug, NEXT you need; MSD DIS DUAL ADAPTER (PN 89120 this consits of 1 dual pin adapter, NEXT; 2 MSD DUAL CHANNE; IGNITION ADAPETRS (PN 8912), and finnaly 1 FLYING MAGNET CRANK TRIGGER KIT. (PN DEPENDS ON SIZE OF BALANCER)

Well I think that's it, as far as the haltech systems go, compared to the MSD rig they are obsitete. The haltech systems dont use a flying magnetic system, and still require a distrubetor. Also the gui on the MSD program is easyer to use, more indepth, and if you are looking to display it in you car, looks more like the Fast and the Furious look
