how long defroster should stay on?

My defroster only stays on for about 30 seconds. How long should it stay on?

I assume you are talking about the rear window def.? it is controlled by a circuit breaker that is time controlled with a bi-metallic strip. It is a time controlled circuit breaker. If the cycle time is too short change the switch asssembly, I believe all the circuitry is actually in the switch unit.

camaros have the timer integrated into the switch assembly, firebirds use an external timer module located below the "glovebox".

i have the same problem ( see post : different rear defroster question ) so your saying all i have to do is change the actual switch that i press to make it stay longer?? man where were you guys last week???

its weird. one day when it was really cold and i had frost on the windows it only stayed on for like 30 seconds. but yesterday when it was warmer it stayed on for 5 min. whats up with that?

i dont know i may be far off but in doing electrical for my car stereo it may be a spliced wire or a bad connection... sinc ein cold weather things contract and warmer weather things expand it may possibly be a wire thats not conencted right? i dunno. now that i typed this it sounds really dumb. but i onyl say it cause i have a stereo that has a broken display that lightes up for a few seconds only whne it is really cold out, and as soon as it warms up it dont light up anymore.
