Probably an old topic but new to me...
I am interested in removing the ECM (computer) from my carbed '83 T/A, and using a non-computer HEI distributor (2-wire, instead of 3). I also want to retain all of the emission-control equipment (Cat, EGR, Air, etc.), but I need the "Check Engine" light to come on when the ignition key is switched on, and go off after the engine is started. Has anyone done this?...
Sounds like your in a bind.
You need the computer for the check engine light to work.
As for removing the distributor and what not, you might want to try the tech general section on here.
They may be able to tell you how to get around the wire problem on the distributor.
