As far as I know anything 94-up is the electronic, yes even 93 z28's were not electronic, they were the 4L60's (same as 700R4's) not 4L60E's. So you should have no problem, other than the TC lock-up, without the ECM.

Mechanical speedos have the pulse generator in the speedo head itself, it then goes to the VSS buffer and then to the ECM. If you use a later version 700R-4 you can still use the stock setup you have now. The later electronic speedos have the VSS in the same place as the present cable goes into now, but either type of setup will fit into the transmission. As far as setting up the ECM for a different unit as you say I am not sure what you mean. You can make changes and most likely not have any problem with the VSS end of things.

Also, another thing I might add, what about your kickdown? If you went with anything 93-down, then you would be fine, since they still run off of a cable. I guess that is what I was thinking about before.

I'm sure someone makes some kind of unit to fix this problem (JET I think), and probably a unit to fix your other problem also, but it seems like your tranny swap could get rather expensive.

You mention a different setup, what are you planning to do? All the ECM's should be set up for TCC control and VSS. If you eliminate the ECM all together then you will have to wire up TCC control if you use a 700R-4. You really don't have the option to use a 4L60E unless you want to spend mucho bucks for the controller. The E is a pulse width controlled box and needs a PCM to manage it. Check out this site www.technicalevolution.com. Ken has a couple of good articles about the 700.

i guess i should have been a little more clear about the trans mission im getting ......i am getting a 700R4....SAME transmission i already have just the STRONGER version 88-92 or whatever they are and i guess i was misled when someone told me that they had electronic sending units on them for the speedo..........i am keeping my ECM........

so just to double check......now i should be alright

right?
