Heater Fan question

I have recently changed my 1991 RS from AC/Heater to just a Heater box and blower fan. I was testing the blower fan with ignition
on and only the Hi speed setting would work.
They I started the camaro, and tried again,
This time when I went to turn the heater on
High I heard a loud pop come from the engine bay, $h!t! I turned off the car and checked the
fuses under the dash. All were okay. So I thought I blew the fan motor. Purchased a new one and still nothing. Did I blow the blower relay? or is the blower resistor bad?
Or could it be a bad fan switch in the HVAC system?

Any advice would be great!

I'd say both. If your low speeds aren't working but high is, then it's the resistor pack. If now none of them are working and the new motor isn't either, test the relay because it's most likely that. The relay is right there by the blower motor.

I'll try the relay first. If that gets the fan blower to come on then I'll check the resistor.

Thanks Jza!
I'll let you known if the relay works.

I tried a new relay.
Still no power to the blower fan.
Maybe I blew the red fuseable link?
I'm going to get a fan switch tonight.

Cornflake,

Check for power at the relay (at all times - direct battery power).

If there is no power, check the single wire electrical connector just above the right head at the firewall. This is prone to failure and supplies power to the blower. It may be melted. Note the two connectors in the photo, one just above the letter "A" in "ACCUMULATOR" and the other just below the first. Find those on your car and take a close look.

Vader,

I looked in the area you described
but, I'm not having to much luck finding it.
Does the wire have a black plastic connector?

You can find it the hard way by tracing the fusible links upward from the starter main terminal. My '86 has a black and a gray connector for the fusible link connections.

Thanks, Vader and Jza for all your help.
I traced down the fusable link from the
relay. It was clear up by the battery on the
right side. The blower works now, but I still
have to figure out why it won't blow out the vents. I'll bet its a vacum problem.

While we're on the subject, A couple of days ago I smelled something hot while driving. When I stopped I felt around under the hood but could feel any thing hot. ( i didn't shut the car off) everything seemed to be working ok. The next morning the heater fan didn't work. I checked the fuse, it was ok. The I pulled the fan motor. It was very hard to turn even with pliers. Bought new motor, still no fan. Tested the resistor it was ok. Replaced the relay and switch still no fan. The fuse box has power on that circuit but no power at the fan switch. HELP !!!!

There are two switches in that circuit, the A/C control head switch and the switch for the blower speed. Only thing I can think of that's left to check are fusible links, and the wires themselves.
