Remove old speedo...install new, reinstall cluster and hook up cable. Take it for a spin and make sure the speedo is working.

The entire assembly (cluster) swaps. You don't have to replace the gauges individually.
One note to make though, if you have idiot lights (no gauges except speed & gas) in your original cluster, you will need an oil press. sender and temp. sender to make the respective gauges operate properly.

Well if you are getting the entire instrument cluster, then yes, use it. You did say you were getting a 145 speedo though, I took that to mean just the speedo.

You need to get up behind the cluster to remove the speedo cable. Then its just a matter of removing 2 nuts on the front after the lens is removed, the nuts are down at the bottom sitting in two of those pockets.

Take this opportunity to replace the stock 194 bulbs with xenon high-intensity bulbs from McEwen (the difference is remarkable). For another idea, check the thread below. You might also consider white-faced gauges, if that appeals to you.

The last I knew, the lense was still available from GM, which is where I purchased mine.
