ALDL Data Link Not Working :(

I tried to run diagnostics and can't link to the computer. I'm getting a "No communication: Make sure key is on, and wait 15 seconds" error. Very annoying. All the wires from the data link to the computer and everywhere are connected and in good condition. I really can't remember the diagnostic computer I was using, it's like an Allen or Snap-On or something. Red, about 14 inches wide and 6 inches tall, with a dial to select on-screen and Y and N buttons. It works fine on all other cars. Any help?

Have you tried to put the ECM in diagnostic mode using the multi-function diagnostic interface device (paperclip in the ALDL terminal ) ?

what year is your car? what motor. i had the same problem until i found out 85-88 (unsure about years...maybe 86-89) tpi motors in f and y body cars require an "e" pin adapter to read data. or, splice a new pin from the "e" pin and put it in the "m" slot. it worked for me because i have an old otc2000. let me know what year and motor, and maybe i can help. best of luck, tom

The snap-on scan tool has a wire that you plug into the plug for the aldl you run this wire to a 12 volt source (battery)
