"sensor" on air cleaner housing

Changing the air cleaner filter the other day and noticed this "sensor" attached to the front of the housing... What this for?

Well it looks like a sensor. I thas the brass wrench fitting with I believe one wire coming off it. The other side goes through the air cleaner canister and is white w/ open slits near the end. Aprox 1/8 to 1/4 in in dia.

I know this probalby isn't accurate/correct but, on TBI cars (only?), there is a sensor in the air filter housing which is (for the life of me I can't remember the name) the, I want to say, MAT (manifold air temp) sensor. For some reason I don't think that correct though (too lazy to go look it up too)
I have one on my 91 TBI and just drilled a new hole on the air cleaner base as close to the TB as I could. No ill effects so far.

if you have the dual air filters on it, it is the MAT (manifold air temp) sensor, i had mine go bad last week. she aint the cheapest thing in the world either, lol

Not sure If I have duals. There is the round canister type filter on the front left side of the radiator ( looking from front to back) and then there is anouther rectangular plastic "housing" that sets on the top back side the radiator. Although I have never read/seen anything that states that is a cleaner too.
