fog light relays keep dieing
My fog light relay will die after about a month. I usually always have the fogs on. THey are aftermarket lights. They use 35W H3 bulbs. They are wired like stock though. Except the passenger power wire(purple one) powers both lights via a splitter. This just started happening after I replaced them after my car accident(front end was hit, driver side fog was toast, replaced both with exact same kind).
They are wired directly to the battery cause the fusible link is bad. I ahve a 30 amp fuse in there to protect. The green wire is grounded so my brights and fogs are on at the same time.
WTF is happening?
Matt

Might too much draw from both lights for one relay to handle. I have one of those Blazer driving light relays and it really doesn't look up to the task of even powering a turn signal bulb. One day I'll actually install it (along with a 2nd most likely). Just a guess...

I'm using the stock gm relay. All wiring is stock with the exception to the lights them selves. The grounds are stock, the way the power is delivered is the only difference.
Thanks,
Matt

This is starting to **** me off. The relay is dead again. WTF!!! Is powering the 2 fogs off one power wire too much? Are my fogs sucking too much juice? I never had a problem before the accident, now, since I replaced them, the relay keeps blowing. They still click( i can hear and feel them) but that doesnt necessarily mean they are good right?
Maybe I got a bad connection somewhere, or the switch is bad.
Sometimes they will come on after driveing a little, maybe after hitting a bump. Or they will not work at first, then i will press the button again then they will work. But after I put in a new relay they work perfect for a few weeks then start acting up.
Open to any suggestions.
Thanks,
Matt

you most likely are pulling too much current through the relay,i would use a potter&bromfield which can stand up to 40 amps of current.another possibility is one the output wires from relay to lights is rubbing against metal but this would pop the fuse 1st in most cases.i would think the 1st scenario is occuring before the 2nd.feel free to email me with any questions.

Where can I get this relay?
I was thinking the lights was drawing too much juice too. That and I think the switch was on its way out. I replaced the switch 10 min ago. Now they come on, but I don't know if it will last.
I also switched the wiring compeletly to stock. The only exception is the green wire is grounded so I can run fogs with brights. No more y-connection.
Thanks,
Matt

you can find these at any car stereo/alarm shop.they're not very expensive.i would also check the connections/wiring for any burned or melted spots. this will cause resistance and heat which will make the problem worse until it won't work at all
