Wipers work funky after tilt column install.
Wipers work funky after tilt column install.
I swapped a tilt colmun with cruise, delay wipers into my Iron Duke car without cruise and delay. The non-delay stalk works real funky like but the delay stalk won't work at all. Can someone tell me what exactly I need to do to make this work? BTW, the tilt column is from my 83 Z parts car. It went into my 84 SC.
Thanks,

You need to do some re-arranging of some wires, probably best to do at the connector near the steering column.
I had the changes figured out and saved...on my old hard drive which doesn't work anymore
If I remember, I'll check tomorrow and let you know what needs to be changed.

Bad news...when I checked the old harnesses to get the combination, I found out that when I had previously been figuring them out, I had slid all the wires out of the connector, and then hadn't put them back into it...they're just hanging loose, in no order
It's just trail and error..maybe if I get real bored...
I do recall that the hi-speed wouldn't work, but lo-speed and the washer pump would.
The difference in the designs is that in 82-83, power was fed directly into the motor terminals, then the column switch grounded out the appropriate contacts; from 84-up, the switch gets powered first, and the motor is grounded to complete the circuit.
Sorry...

There's 5 wires in a straight line connector next to the steering column, on the side toward the fuse panel (gray, black, pink, purple, and white) and only 4 coming from the column switch.

Guess what I found...an old post of mine from when I had been figuring this out.... https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=73978
It shows my 'ciphering, and how someone else continued and made everything work correctly....

I love you man!
Wipers park and work in washer, low modes only. Have any idea how I can 12v the last wire? Now all I need is a delay stock and new motor...right? Thanks again bro!

You could tap into the fuse box for a 12V source, and mount a switch (momentary pushbutton maybe?) on the dash somewhere within easy reach and hit it when you need that extra speed.
An even better solution is to buy and apply a product called Rain-X to your windshield, side windows, hatch, etc. You'll rarely need to use the wipers at all with that stuff!
