Shiftlight

I dont know if this is the right place for this but i didn't know where else to put it. If its in the wrong forum i apologize ahead of time.
I was driving around tonight and noticed on my stock gauges in my '86 T/A there's a shift light that comes on quit often. I dont know if it has something to do with switching from 2.77-3.73 gears and pulling higher RPMs and it just throws it on or what. I have never noticed this light comming on before even when going through the gears manualy (automatic, dont know why i do, but i do) and pulling higher RPMs. Any ideas?

Thanks!

So the shiflight is nothing to worry about? theres not a seperate bulb for that though is there? Theres i think a total of 9 back there for the gauges, and a bunch of openings to put more. If i put more back there it would make my gauges brighter right? Does anyone know where i can get the plastic piece to put the bulbs into so i can put more back there? I am redoing my gauges to blue, and there not all that bright.

shift light? a arrow pointing up? if it is my 84 had that and it is just telling you to upshift and is controlled by the ECM should not work in a auto though. very interesting.

that is very strange. I will have to see if me 83 auto has a up shift light and put a bulb in it to see if it might work as well.

As far as I know, there shouldn't even BE a bulb in that socket, let alone should it light up, if the car originally was an auto, of course, or if the ECM was originally set up for the auto tranny.

Yes, if you have an auto transmission and fuel injection, the shift and [ / ] lights shouldn't be there, unless the car was converted at some point.
