This is very technical so pay close attention.
Grasp the 'multifunction' lever (high tech name for the turn signal lever) and pull. High tech, huh ?
I believe the cruise wiring itself is just snaked down through the coulmn housing. I've yet to have to screw with taking the lever out of my 'bird yet so I can't say how the wires run 100% for certain.

Its a tilt wheel. I got the new one plugged in and the lever in place, but I cant get the old one out. The wire dosent just pull out of the column, its stuck, and I cant just slide the new wire in through the column to under the dash.

I just went out and checked my car on my beverage break
and indeed, the wiring is just snaked through the coulmn housing (at least on my '87).
Chances are is the the harness plug is hanging up on the multitude of crap within the column. Since the old is broken, clip the harness plug off the stalk wiring and pull it out. Then, use some craft wire or similar hard wire to snake up through the column. Tie it to the new harness and pull back through the column. Similar to how electricians use fish wire to pull home wiring through walls.

i also had this problem....i couldnt get the plug thru as the plug on the end was too big to fit thru were it was snaked down the colum...only thing i could think of was cutting the wires then yould have to rewire them together afterwards. Anyone figure a better way out...i still have to do mine. And another tip if you let the 2 bolts out and drop the column and youll see the plug end.

I replaced mine a couple of months ago. It sucked! The old switch did not want to come out. I pretty much took the whole column apart. I didn't have any problem putting the new one in and wiring it. I out the whole thing back together in 30 mins.

Got it all done. Now onto fixing the speedometer, rear main seal, and air vents... Thanks for the help everyone.
