Battery to alternator

I searched, but everyone's questions varied a little or were for different applications.

I have the 88 TPI, so my alternator is on the driver's side. I have heard of running bigger + wires to the alternator, and I would like to do this before I put my 140 amp in.

What gauge is good? Is there a part # or will this be custom? Also... what do I do with the + wire on the alternator now?

140amp alternator will definetely need a thicker cable, not sure exactly what gauge but there is a formula to figure out what gauge you need for a particulare current. guess im not much help

ok i felt bad that i wasnt helping so i found this for you

however, i think thats like the bare minimum before the wire starts to smoke, because it says 10gauge at 150amps 12v, seems too small to me. i think a 4gauge should be fine if you can stand it and find it, 8 should be good too. just be aware you'll have more voltage drop across teh wire the smaller it is.

Voltage drop? I don't want that! If I go with 6 gauge I should be ok though, right? I mean, the stock wire is so small!

6 gauge

Yea man, six gauge is the way to go if you can fit it; the bigger the better; to a certain point then it's just overkill. But yea six gauge should definitely do you fine unless you feel comfortable running 4 gauge?
